The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board invites applications for the position of Supply Educational Assistant.

As a Supply Educational Assistant (EA), you will work directly with students with special needs and exceptionalities, supporting their unique behavioural and medical needs. Supply EAs make an important impact to the students they support by ensuring continuance of learning when their regular EA is absent. In this role, you’ll enjoy flexibility and ownership over your own weekly schedule. This means you that determine which days of the week you are available to work, and you choose the geographic regions where you would like to work as well. All this flexibility promotes a healthy work/life balance. Additionally, our Supply EAs earn competitive wages ($28.51/hour), have the opportunity to contribute to an OMERS pension, and also have access to long-term occasional assignments (LTOs). It’s a rewarding position where you are constantly learning, collaborating with staff, and working with students who need you the most.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist students with hygienic and personal care such as toileting, catheterizing, life skills, etc.

Administer medication in accordance with Board Policy and Administration Regulations; AP-HS-401 Administration of Medication and/or Special Services.

Assist in occupational, physio, speech and other therapy or behavioural programs as directed.

Carry out training programs such as Individual Education Plan (I.E.P.), Co-op Education, job training, safety programs, etc., as assigned.

Assist with the supervision of in-school and out-of-school student activities.

Assist in the development, implementation and tracking of instructional programs.

Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and equipment as directed.

Participate in Identification, Placement and Review Committee (I.P.R.C.) Meetings, case conferences, etc. when required.

Assist with the loading and unloading of school buses or taxis as directed.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THIS POSITION:

The following are minimum requirements of this position. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also apply.

Requires O.S.S.D., plus two years of specialized training, i.e., Educational Assistant Program, Child Youth Worker, Autism Support Worker, Personal Support Worker or equivalent. Requires knowledge of strategies and experience supporting students.

Requires knowledge of pertinent Board policies and directives such as Physical Intervention, Discipline, Administration of Medication and/or Special Services

Requires operating audio-visual and office equipment such as computer, projectors, photocopier, etc. and knowledge in the operation of equipment such as wheelchair, parapodium, walkers, etc.

Requires performing physical duties such as lifting, positioning students. May also include implementation of Behaviour Management Systems physical intervention strategies.

Requires communicating effectively and working cooperatively with students, Board personnel, parents, community agencies and organizations.
