This position is currently posted internally to CUPE employees for 5 working days until 4:30 p.m. June 14th, 2024 as per the CUPE Local 5829 Collective Agreement.

We are currently looking for a compassionate, self-motivated individual to join our team as a Mental Health Professional to fulfill the requirements of an Integrated School Support Program, in collaboration with the Calgary Police Youth Foundation. Within a school-based setting you will assist students and their families with a wide range of social, emotional and behavioral challenges, to build resiliency in children and youth, improve academics over both short and long-term and promote pro-social behavior. Our ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a high level of sound and independent judgement along with a commitment to confidentiality. Effective planning and organizational strategies and the ability to contribute within a team environment are essential.

This is a 10-month, full time position (1.0 FTE) working five days per week, 8 hours per day, for the 2024-2025 school year, at J.C.Charyk Hanna School. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to coordination and interpretation of assessments, consultation and treatment services, assisting personnel with strategies for students encountering learning, behavioral, emotional and social difficulties, and liaise with external professionals/agencies. Duties will commence August 28, 2024.

Preference will be given to a candidate who has a doctoral-level degree in psychology. A combination of education, training and relevant experience may be considered, and the following alternate designations may be considered:

Registered Psychologist (R.Psych) License to practice by the College of Alberta Psychologist (CAP)

Clinical Psychologist specializing in assessment and treatment of mental health disorders

Education Psychologist who can support students with academic, emotional, and behavioral challenges

Registered Social Worker (RSW) licensed by the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW)

Social Worker (BSW or MSW) bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work and able to provide counselling, support and advocacy

Occupational therapist with bachelor’s or master’s degree in occupational therapy and can help individuals with mental health challenges

Psychiatric Nurse (RN or RPN) Registered Nurse and or Registered Psychiatric Nurse who specializes in mental health nursing

Unlicensed counsellors registered with the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta (ACTA) and/or the Alberta Teacher’s Association (ATA)

You must hold a membership or be eligible to hold a membership within your professional designation, and you will be expected to participate in the ISSP Community of Practice. You will possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license, along with valid insurance and a reliable vehicle for travel.
