QUALIFICATIONS
* High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
* Province of Manitoba Class 4 Drivers license with valid air brake endorsement, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
* Mechanically inclined for performing repairs and maintenance of equipment
* A clear driving record
* Must be comfortable with technology, including wireless devices, computers and Windows based operating systems
* Experience working effectively with a diverse team and client populations
* Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to work independently
* Demonstrated communication skills

POSITION SUMMARY

The Driver is responsible for operating the Mobile Primary Care Unit and assists the Nurse Practitioners and Community Health Nurses who work on the Mobile Primary Care Unit to ensure the goals of the mobile service are met within the Prairie Mountain Health Region. The Driver - Mobile Primary Care Unit is responsible for all operations and maintenance of the Mobile Primary Care Unit, and for welcoming clients to the service.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overview:

  1. Inspect and drive the Mobile Primary Care Unit from storage site to designated communities and return.
    • Set up the Mobile Primary Care Unit for operations, inspect and take down for travel.
    • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and Unit according to established schedules.
    • Stock fresh water and dispose of grey water and black water.
    • Check and restock supplies.
    • Manage waste, including transportation, disposal and /or incineration.
    • Fuel unit daily.
    • Wash exterior of unit when required.
    • Ensure that the unit goes into a qualified shop for scheduled oil changes/maintenance.
  2. Prior to the Mobile Primary Care Unit leaving the storage hub, the driver surveys the current and forecasted weather and road conditions at both the storage hub and at the destination community, also considering the weather and road conditions from where the nursing staff will be travelling.
  3. Develop and complete pre-travel inspection checklists and completes these routinely every morning prior to the clinic leaving the storage hub.
  4. Serve a key function as a representative of Prairie Mountain Health and the Mobile Primary Care Unit with local vendors that supply fuel, regular maintenance etc of the vehicle; community contact people; health care providers in various communities; and clients who use the service.
  5. Liaison with the Prairie Mountain Health Primary Health Care Manager; Director; Capital and Infrastructure Services; IT; VEMA and Manitoba Health regarding various issues related to the vehicle.
  6. Seeks direction appropriately to ensure any deficiencies are corrected.
  7. Completes daily housekeeping routines including:
    • Empty all garbage.
    • Disinfect all counters and handrails.
    • Clean all faucets and sinks.
    • Clean and sanitize washroom.
    • Sweep and wash floors.
  8. Proficient in working with the computer, scheduling program, label maker, Blackberry and satellite phone.
  9. Take the responsibility and direction from the staff to restock supplies and request equipment.
  10. Connect and troubleshoot the Mobile Primary Care Unit wireless system.
  11. Troubleshoot general maintenance issues re: electrical/plumbing.
  12. Deliver lab samples to the appropriate lab.
  13. Ensure that vehicle, staff and client safety are protected at all times.
  14. Ensure effective communication processes between the toll-free line appointment scheduler, local contact people, staff who work on the Mobile Primary Care Unit, and clients.
  15. Greet visitors to the bus in a friendly and welcoming manner, providing assistance as required and respecting confidentiality at all times.
  16. Communicate effectively with co-workers, community leaders, the public, and manager.
  17. Apply critical thinking skills to guide decision making within scope of position.
  18. Report pertinent information to nurse colleagues and the Program Manager or designate.
  19. Compile logs, prepare reports, and completes other administrative/reception duties as required including but not limited to:
    • Co-ordinate and schedule walk in appointments.
    • During the intake process, ensure that client information is up to date on the EMR.
    • Make future appointments if required.
    • Fill out and submit daily reports.
    • Submit monthly mileage sheet to VEMA.
    • Submit monthly gas receipts.
    • Liaison with community contacts.
  20. Adhere to established policies and procedures as set out by Prairie Mountain Health.
  21. Sundry duties as assigned.
