* Grade 12 education (MB Standards)
* Second Class Power Engineering Certificate as recognized by the Province of Manitoba
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers Licence, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
* Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently

POSITION SUMMARY
The Engineer II shall be accountable to the Manager, Capital & Infrastructure / Supervisor, Chief Engineer and is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the physical plant and infrastructure within Prairie Mountain Health (PMH). The incumbent will perform demand and preventative maintenance on buildings and equipment as required in order to provide a safe, comfortable and supportive environment for all patients, staff and visitors. The incumbent will work closely with the Manager, Capital & Infrastructure / Supervisor, Chief Engineer to provide support services to other maintenance personal as may be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overview:
- Assumes Shift Engineer responsibilities for the Physical Plant during non-regular working hours or as directed.
- Acts as Chief Engineer during regular working hours as directed.
- Safely operates and maintains all Power House related equipment such as boilers, chillers, electrical systems, and electrical standby equipment, various air compressors, medical gas systems and their related auxiliary equipment to conform to all codes, standards and instructions.
- Maintains proper water treatment for all required systems.
- Participates in various checks of all equipment and mechanical rooms during non-regular working hours or as directed.
- Operates all equipment as safely and efficiently as possible.
- Monitors, collects and records data on a timely basis as required.
- Produces various computerized reports as required.
- Responds to emergencies or handles various trouble calls from PMH as instructed.
- Must work in co-operation with all other staff to produce a harmonious working relationship throughout PMH.
- Participates in various meetings and committees as required.
- Keeps the person you report to, apprised of all pertinent information regarding the functions within the Department.
- Orders related materials and parts as required.
- Prepares estimates of time and materials for specific projects as required.
- Supervises other categories or lesser-qualified maintenance personnel as required.
- Works independently or assists in the installation and repair of building services, building service equipment and various hospital equipment as required.
- Participates in new construction and commissioning as required.
- Performs all required aspects of preventive maintenance.
- Responds to emergency calls such as fire alarms, etc. as directed.
- Informs manager/supervisor, when repair materials are low or when various building and equipment repairs are required.
- Ensures that equipment, tools, materials, etc. are properly maintained and ensures economic use of the same.
- Uses a full array of various hand and power tools.
- Maintains work and equipment areas in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
- Performs other maintenance duties as required, not exceeding skills and capabilities.
- Notifies manager/supervisor, when additional help is required.
- Performs required duties on PMH rental housing.
- Ensures that consideration is given to patients and staff by notifying them when services are to be interrupted, when work is to be done and when work has been completed.
- Heavy lifting, bending and working in elevated areas utilizing scaffolding, etc. and working in confined spaces and enclosures as required.
- All of the above must be carried out with PMH and departmental policies and procedures as well as related codes.
- Other duties as assigned.
