* Grade 12 education (MB Standards)
* Fifth Class Power Engineering Certificate as recognized by the Province of Manitoba
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers Licence, or equivalent from province of residence, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
* Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible to the Fifth Class Power Engineer Supervisor or designate in facilities who have a fifth-class power plant, the Fifth Class Power Engineer performs preventative maintenance, installation and repairs of equipment, and maintenance of buildings and grounds in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values, and policies and procedures of the Prairie Mountain Health. The Fifth Class Power Engineer may provide relief for the Fifth Class Power Engineer Supervisor.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overview:
1. Plans and organizes daily work schedule to ensure all duties are performed in a timely manner and appropriately prioritizes duties according to an assessment of safety and risk.
2. Responds in a timely manner to maintenance requisitions from other services within the facility.
3. Provides assistance to other services within the facility as requested.
4. Maintains a log of maintenance requisitions in accordance with established procedure.
5. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment according to established preventative maintenance schedule.
6. Checks and services emergency back-up systems, alarm systems, and oxygen concentrators.
7. Installs, repairs, and maintains equipment, buildings, and grounds within scope of qualifications and in accordance with established workflow schedules and safety requirements.
8. Competently and safely handles and uses a variety of hand and power tools.
9. Assumes responsibility for waste management, including transportation and/or incineration.
10. Checks and restocks supplies for the Maintenance Services.
11. Receives and checks the delivery of supplies and equipment to the facility.
12. Performs regular fire drills and completes reports as required by policy.
13. Participates in the Maintenance Services on-call system where deemed necessary.
14. Contributes to a safe environment by adhering to WHMIS Guidelines, Workplace Safety and Health Regulations, and Infection Control Guidelines.
15. Adheres to building codes and safety regulations in all Maintenance Services activities.
16. Ensures familiarity with the applicable facility fire and disaster plan.
17. Responds to emergency codes as required.
18. Understands role and responsibility in fire prevention and disaster preparedness.
19. Demonstrates knowledge of body mechanics, and uses proper techniques for lifting supplies and equipment.
20. Demonstrates knowledge in the safe use of all equipment and follows established cleaning and/or maintenance schedules.
21. Recognizes own level of competence and seeks appropriate direction or assistance.
22. Works within limitations of the position held and follows position description.
23. Uses critical thinking skills to guide decision making within scope of position description.
24. Reports pertinent information to the Fifth Class Power Engineer Maintenance Supervisor or designate.
25. Minimizes waste and utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner.
26. Completes required documentation accurately and within established timelines.
27. Participates in health promotion activities within the facility and the community.
28. Demonstrates knowledge and application of accepted communication principles.
29. Communicates effectively with clients and other members of the health care team.
30. Establishes and maintains effective interpersonal relationships with all members of the health care team.
31. Actively participates in team meetings, staff meetings, and other facility and regional activities.
32. Assists in the orientation and development of new staff and students as required.
33. Identifies own learning needs and participates in goal setting to enhance work performance.
34. Participates in in-services and workshops at a facility, regional, or provincial level as available.
35. Follows established process for education attendance approval.
36. Keeps up to date with the policies and procedures of the Assiniboine Regional Health Authority.
37. Keeps up to date with Maintenance Services identified best practices and recommends changes to current practices as appropriate.
38. Other duties as assigned.
