* Grade 12 education (MB Standards)
* Rehabilitation Aide course with in-class learning and practical component; or completion of a recognized Rehabilitation Aide online course in addition to having one year of experience working in Therapy Services department or a recognized equivalent level of experience or Health Care Aide Certificate from a recognized program with a minimum of one (1) year full-time equivalent experience working as a Health Care Aide and willing to complete a recognized Rehabilitation Aide online course within one (1) year
* Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Training as delineated in Prairie Mountain Health Policy PPG-00002 CPR Training
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers Licence and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
* Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently
* Demonstrated communication skills
* Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures
* Ability to display independent judgment

POSITION SUMMARY:
Rehabilitation Aides work within rehabilitation programs in long term care, in acute care and in the community. Rehabilitation Aides carry out rehabilitation programs following the assessment, program development and delegation of intervention by a therapist or nurse with the goal to rehabilitate, maintain and optimize the client’s physical quality of life. The Rehabilitation Aide is supervised by the therapist or nurse for the throughout that client’s course of care in the program.
The Rehabilitation Aide is a member of a multidisciplinary team whose intervention services are provided in a Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) facility, the client’s home or community environment. Services provided include, but are not limited to, basic personal care and rehabilitation; supports for the client that are aimed at helping the client increase their level of mobility, independence with activities of daily living, community re-integration (if applicable) and maximize the client’s safety.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overview:
- Assists the therapist with the assessment / reassessment of clients on an ongoing basis.
- Performs direct and indirect client care activities as assigned by the therapist or nurse for a specific client.
- Completes general group exercise or mobility programs as directed by the therapist, nurse or care team manager.
- Administers therapeutic interventions (e.g. modalities) as prescribed by the therapist.
- Follows the assigned duties and tasks within their scope of practice.
- Communicates responses to treatment and any relevant changes to the supervising therapist and/or nurse.
- Performs assigned client tasks including activities to promote/maximize function, mobility, movement, communication, independence in activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living using appropriate techniques that provide safety for clients and staff.
- Provides training and assistance with in-services at the request of the supervising therapist, nurse or care team manager.
- Provide or assist the client with mobility as per care plan to include but not be limited to; assists client into and out of bed; assists with walking/exercise programs; uses proper transfer techniques utilizing transfer belts, mechanical lifts and other appropriate equipment; assists in transport of clients to an dfrom other departments as required and as per the care plan.
- Assists with the intake and management of referrals; coordinates and schedules client appointments for therapists as applicable.
- Provide or assist the client with necessary safety measures (as per policies and procedures) including side rails, seat belts, wheelchair foot pedals, assist in the management of disoriented or aggressive clients or visitors.
- Documents client interaction and treatments according to regional protocols and policies.
- Investigates, obtains quotes and orders client equipment as instructed.
- Identifies safety issues related to equipment.
- Retrieves, distributes, cleans, stores, labels and records equipment as requested by the therapist.
- Tracks and enters data into the statistical tracking systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
