QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor of Education
* Eligible for and maintains licensure to practice as a Teacher in the province of Manitoba
* Resource Teaching or Guidance Counsellor experience
* Minimum of three (3) years post graduate teaching experience
* Formal training, and experience in behavioral programming
* Knowledge, training and experience in child and adolescent mental health
* Thorough understanding of the Individualized Education Plan process
* Knowledge and or ability to administer Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT)
* Current Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training or willingness to complete
* Current Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) training or willingness to complete
* Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers Licence, or equivalent from province of residence, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health
* Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
* Advanced level of written and oral communication skills
* Ability to display independent judgment
* Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independently
* Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills
* Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures in a changing environment

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Teacher Institution for the Child and Adolescent Treatment Centre (CATC) oversees the education component within a multi-disciplinary treatment team, in partnership with the Special Education Teacher. The incumbent participates in the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of individualized academic programs to clients who are eligible within CATC programs and services. As a member of the CATC multi-disciplinary team, the incumbent will provide a broad range of education services to clients and their families.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Overview:

  1. Classroom supervision and teaching
  2. Academic Resource Development
  3. Documentation of student’s progress
  4. Consultation within CATC programs
  5. Participates in program staff meetings. Will be expected to provide feedback on programs and procedures as they affect the general functioning of the educational component.
  6. Keeps organized records of students’ individual academic progress for use in preparing reports.
  7. Prepares individualized academic material within the treatment program at any grade level and in any subject area.
  8. Independently carries out teaching activities in the classroom, such activities pertaining to subject content as individually designed or as provided by the client’s home school.
  9. Observes and reports behavioral changes of students within the multi-disciplinary team
  10. Responsible for checking absences of students from the classroom and monitoring student whereabouts during classroom time.
  11. Researches and develops new teaching materials and supplies.
  12. Generates client’s daily assignments.
  13. Performs academic testing and provides feedback to client/parents
  14. Liaison with school personnel
  15. Other duties as assigned.
