About the Role: Resolute Forest Products is looking for an Armstrong Operations Forester to join our Thunder Bay Woodlands team. In this role, you will be responsible for planning and monitoring wood harvest, road construction, and maintenance. You will help ensure our operations are safe, efficient, cost-effective, environmentally compliant, and sustainable.

Key responsibilities:

  • Health & Safety: Adhere to health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Primary Contact: Act as the primary contact for Contractors Foresters and the Planning Forester
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with staff and contractors to maximize efficiency and minimize costs
  • AWS Information: Work with Contract Foresters and Planning Forester to gather AWS information for submissions
  • FMP Amendments: Determine necessary FMP amendments or AWS revisions with Contract Foresters
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and utilization standards
  • Inspection Reports: Monitor and approve Forest Operations Inspection Reports
  • Budget Assistance: Assist with departmental budgets and cost control
  • Plan Development: Develop FMP and AWS operating and road plans
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement programs to boost productivity
  • Quality Specifications: Reinforce quality specifications with employees and contractors
  • Product Quality: Monitor product quality to meet customer needs
  • Collective Agreements: Ensure compliance with Collective Agreements and foster cooperative relationships
  • Public Relations: Build good relationships with governmental and public agencies
  • Company Representation: Represent the company on the Local Citizen’s Committee
  • Vacation Relief: Provide vacation relief for Operations Coordinator or Superintendent
  • Travel: Travel up to 75% (mostly within Armstrong and Northeast Ontario )

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience: Ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of proven operational harvesting and road building experience.
  • Qualifications: A degree in Forestry with professional designation (or ability to achieve) or Forestry Technology with extensive operational or planning experience. Certified FOIP inspector accreditation or ability to attain.
  • Skills: Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent judgment and ability to explain and influence.
  • Team Player: Ability to work as part of a team, communicate with all levels of the organization, and adapt quickly to change.
  • Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of MS Office and solid computer skills.
  • Industry Knowledge: Perform the physical requirements of the position within the wood products industry.
  • Safety Commitment: Recognized for an uncompromising approach to safety.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt, organize, and implement best business practices.
  • Self-Motivated: Autonomous, motivated, and oriented towards excellence in results.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail with the ability to see the big picture.

  • Reporting to the Area Superintendent, you will be part of a results-oriented team whose members are encouraged to exceed expectations.
