Description

This role is a key element of our team, providing tactical direction and practical support with the ability to engage and collaborate with managers, employees, and clients across all business functions. By joining a team of experienced hazardous materials (HM) professionals, this role will provide business, technical, and customer support for sites in Quebec. This role will also work with sales to support both current and new business while ensuring regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities include training and certifying hourly employees, responding to information requests from internal and external clients, verifying regulatory compliance, and preparing reports.

Responsibilities
  • Engage and collaborate with all business functions.
  • Provide timely information in response to customer inquiries, such as compliance requirements and shipping options.
  • Support requests from hazardous materials (HM) specialists regarding compliance issues and regulatory interpretations.
  • Follow up with customers regarding non-compliance issues or incidents to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide business, technical, and customer support for hazardous materials in the Quebec region.
  • Work with sales to support both current and new business while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure training and certification of employees.
  • Respond to information requests from internal and external customers.
  • Verify regulatory compliance through HM assessments and/or audits.
  • Work with local teams (operations, health & safety) to resolve any procedural or regulatory issues.
  • Collaborate with regulators to support inspections and address any findings.
  • Support business initiatives by participating in and contributing to cross-functional projects.
  • Support and/or lead initiatives to improve compliance and enhance the efficiency of hazardous materials processes and procedures.
  • Provide terminal support through visual management activities and coaching.
  • Assist in collecting key performance indicators (KPIs) to track HM process performance.
  • Participate in the customer approval process.
  • Support the hazardous materials team in other projects/initiatives as needed.
Requirements
  • Expert knowledge of applicable legislation/regulations.
  • Proven ability to train others on regulatory/technical content in an adult learning environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to influence and deliver presentations at all levels of management (e.g., unit manager, district manager, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with external clients.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and French; bilingualism is essential.
  • Proficiency in technology and software/systems (e.g., Office 365, Outlook, Teams, etc.); experience with SAP, SuccessFactors, or other learning management systems is an asset.
  • Self-motivated and a strong team player.
  • Willingness to travel as needed-primarily within Quebec (approximately 50%).
  • Successful experience working with hazardous materials regulators and/or inspectors.
  • Must be fluent in both official languages (French and English)
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.
Education
  • Post-secondary education/knowledge of TDG and ICAO regulations
Experience
  • Direct experience in hazardous materials at an operational or supervisory level.
