What is the opportunity?

This is an opportunity within the Data & Analytics team at RBC Global Asset Management. We are seeking a hands-on, highly skilled, and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as a Product Owner, Data Products. As a key member of our data product team, you will play a crucial role in defining consumable data products that meets business needs and prioritizing the product backlog for reporting solutions, ensuring that the team delivers high quality solutions for use cases. This role bridges the gap between business stakeholders and the technical team, ensuring the final products align with strategic goals, meet user requirements, and adhere to industry standards and best practices.

Your primary focus will be on defining, designing, and maintaining robust data products and pipelines to support our organizations data needs and advance our capabilities pertaining to robust re-usable data products. This is a dual role split 20% Data Analyst (DA) and 80% product Owner (PO).

What will you do?

Product owner responsibilities include (80%):

Backlog Management:

  • Define and prioritize the reporting product backlog, ensuring that the most valuable features are delivered first.

  • Create clear and concise user stories and acceptance criteria based on business requirements.

  • Continuously refine the backlog in collaboration with stakeholders and development team.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their reporting needs, gather requirements, and translate them to actionable tasks for the architecture/development team.

Product Vision and Roadmap:

  • Develop and communicate a clear product vision and roadmap for reporting solutions, aligning with the overall business strategy.

  • Continuously update the roadmap based on changing priorities and user feedback.

Technical Guidance:

  • Work closely with architects and developers to ensure technical feasibility and adherence to best practices.

Documentation and training:

  • Ensure that are reposting solutions are well-documented in confluence and that users are provided with necessary training and support.

Data Analyst responsibilities include (20%):

  • The data analyst is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting complex data to produce actionable insights and high-quality reports. The role is responsible to perform detailed data analysis using statistical methods and data visualization tools to identify trends, patterns, and insights.

  • Design, develop, and automate reports and dashboards using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Excel to visualize data and communicate insights effectively.

  • Collaborate with the data governance team to implement best practices in data management and reporting.

What do you need to succeed?

Must haves:

  • 5+ years of product management and/or technical experience, particularly in context of data & reporting products

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in advanced knowledge of SQL or other tools to extract critical information and business value from data spread across multiple databases and data formats.

  • Strong understanding of data management and reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Python and Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).)

  • Proven collaboration and change management skills.

  • Post-secondary education (University or College) or equivalent experience in a similar role.

  • Experience managing internal and external partners that contribute to the delivery of consumption data products.

Nice-to-have:

  • Problem identification, analytical and resolution skills required to support escalated issue resolution and/or oversight requirements of complex processes/programs.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Client experience mindset and holistic thinker understanding downstream implications.
