What is the opportunity?

As Senior Counsel, you provide legal advice and support to RBCs Capital Markets and Wealth Management businesses in Canada. You are instrumental in the resolution of actual and potential disputes, including securities/regulatory inquiries and proceedings, domestic and multi-jurisdictional class actions, certain employment matters, complex arbitrations and commercial litigation, and sensitive regulatory and internal investigations.

What will you do?

  • Provide substantive and strategic advice and counsel for the resolution of actual and potential disputes, formal legal proceedings, regulatory enforcement matters, and internal investigations for RBCs Capital Markets and Wealth Management businesses in Canada
  • Provide litigation reporting to various legal entity boards and line of business operating committees, as well as internally within the Law Group
  • Maintain and share knowledge of particular areas of law relevant to business partners and area of practice
  • Identify and implement strategies to maximize efficiency, value, and cost effectiveness in the management of disputes, including by analyzing and streamlining internal processes where appropriate and negotiating innovative Alternative Fee Arrangements with external partners

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Minimum 5+ years experience in litigation and dispute management, especially securities litigation and enforcement, broker-dealer disputes, and class actions
  • LLB or equivalent and a lawyer qualified to practice in a Canadian jurisdiction
  • Effective and persuasive written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple competing matters effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and exercise good practical judgment

Nice-to-have

  • Fluency in French
  • Familiarity with Quebec Civil Procedure
  • Experience managing internal or regulatory investigations
  • Prior in-house and/or regulatory experience
