What is the opportunity?

As an RBC Royal Trust professional, the Will and Estate Advisor is responsible for the acquisition of new wills and powers of attorney/mandates appointing Royal Trust in a fiduciary capacity. You will develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with high-net-worth clients and with key internal and external partners to identify appropriate opportunities and ensure a superior Royal Trust experience. This position can be filled in Qubec, Montral, or Sherbrooke.

What will you do?

  • Self-source new will and power of attorney/mandate appointments and other new business opportunities through established relationships with Centres of Influence (accountants, lawyers, trustees, investment consultants, etc.).
  • Provide guidance on estate and will planning issues, ensure that new documents meet internal policy standards and ensure that policies related to wills are followed.
  • Act as a resource for Royal Trust by providing advice on specific estate and trust legal issues and to internal partners and clients through presentations on estate and will planning.
  • Keep current with legislative changes related to estate and trust issues within the applicable governing jurisdiction.
  • Provide timely and effective client service for existing clients related to their wills and power of attorney/mandate documents.
  • Provide superior client service for existing clients and partners in order to ensure retention of appointments.
  • Participate in bank and industry events, to continue to build industry and professional expertise.
  • Be an ambassador for Royal Trust as an estate and trust professional within the marketplace.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Lawyer (member of the Barreau du Qubec) or notary (member of the Chambre des notaires du Qubec)
  • Advanced knowledge of wills, estate administration, trust and related administration, and tax rules and planning concepts
  • Advanced knowledge of the law related to wills, estates, and trusts
  • Experience in will, estate, and trust law, financial planning, trust and estate administration, and relevant taxation, environmental, family, and insurance issues
  • Bilingualism (English and French) required, as you will regularly serve our clients and do business with RBC partners and/or employees across Canada with English and French speaking needs
  • Demonstrated presentation skills

Nice-to-have

  • Relationship management/marketing/sales development capabilities
  • Established internal and external business network
  • Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) designation
  • Financial planner diploma granted by the Institute of Financial Planning
