Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools is seeking an Assistant Secretary-Treasurer to join its Finance team. As an experienced professional with proven management and leadership experience, the successful candidate will lead the finance team in the administration of the Divisions accounting procedures and systems in accordance with Board policy and provincial legislation. This full-time position will report to the Secretary-Treasurer and will be a member of the leadership team supporting the Division's mission and vision - Inspired by Christ, Aspiring to Excellence. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Secretary Treasurer, direct the day-to-day accounting operations of the Division, ensuring accuracy of all financial information and reporting. Prepare financial reports, including audited financial statements, related government reports and other financial reports needed by senior management, schools and various departments. Coordinate the annual audit conducted by Board appointed external auditors. Perform capital asset accounting, reporting and reconciliation. Monitor cash flow and short-term investments. Support the Secretary-Treasurer with insurance and risk management. Manage and maintain the Divisions ERP software. Play a key role in development and monitoring of the Division budget. Collaborate with senior leaders, schools and departments to establish effective financial processes, procedures and controls across the Division. Participate in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of Board policies and administrative procedures and controls across the Division. Supervise and support the Finance Department staff. Develop and update role descriptions, recruit and implement evaluation processes for Finance personnel. Coordinate professional development opportunities for central office finance staff, school support financial staff and administrators with budget responsibilities. Flexibility to work additional hours during peak times. Perform other duties as assigned. Duties and responsibilities may be adjusted to reflect the needs of the division and the skills or experience of the successful candidate. Qualifications/Experience: Graduation from a Post-Secondary business program; Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA); Certified School Business Official (CSBO), or willingness to work towards CSBO designation Five years experience in a progressive accounting and finance role; at least two years in a senior management role is preferred. Extensive knowledge and experience in business and financial operations. Knowledge of appropriate statutes within the province and governmental legislation. Excellent analytical, critical thinking and judgment skills. Ability to be flexible, adapt to change, respond to employees in a positive and friendly manner and to deal effectively with emergencies and complex situations. Ability to create meaningful, systemic and sustainable change. Ability to make reasoned decisions, and ability to recognize sensitive situations and potential solutions. Ability to meet deadlines, build an effective team and work with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to collaborate, build effective teams and communicate effectively at all levels, both orally and in writing. Catholicity is not required for this position, but you must be comfortable working in a Catholic environment.
