Education Audiologist - Independent Contractor

On behalf of the Central Alberta Low Incidence Cooperative, Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools is seeking an Educational Audiologist for the 2025-26 school year with a possible start date in spring, 2025. The Educational Audiologist provides consultation to school personnel to support deaf and hard of hearing students, and when applicable, support the use of hearing aids, cochlear implants, bone anchored hearing aids and other hearing assistive technology.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to school staff with regard to the proper use of personal hearing technology (hearing aids, cochlear implants, personal FM/DM system, etc.);
  • Determine how the hard-of-hearing student’s personal technology can best be used with existing classroom technology (e.g. iPad, computers, etc.);
  • Assess school and classroom acoustics for the purposes of listening and learning and provide recommendations where appropriate;
  • Support curricular and non-curricular auditory access through acoustical recommendations, technologies, strategies, etc.;
  • Provide support to school staff with regard to classroom audio distribution technology as it relates to the hard of hearing student;
  • Liaise with community, hospital-based, and dispensing audiologists; Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Audiology- experience with pediatric audiology preferred;
  • Registration with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists;
  • Working knowledge of specialized tools and equipment including audiometers, tympanometers, hearing aid analyzers, hearing aids, cochlear implants, personal DM/FM systems, classroom audio distribution systems, otoscopes, sound level meters, and connectivity to Smart Boards;
  • Excellent communication skills- ability to explain technical information clearly to diverse audiences;
  • Strong organizational skills- ability to manage multiple priorities, attention to detail with scheduling and record keeping;
  • Teamwork and independence- Collaborative yet capable of working independently
  • Professionalism- Exercises tact, discretion and good judgment
