Environmental Compliance Lead

The compliance lead will be responsible for ensuring that all permits, licenses, approvals and environmental agreements are complied with as well as regulatory compliance with various relevant regulatory authorities.

The incumbent oversees the implementation and enforcement of all procedures related to regulatory obligations, internal and external programs as well as customer requirements.

The compliance lead conducts internal and external audits and implements corrective actions to ensure full compliance with various regulatory authorities.

The compliance lead will work closely with all departments, including corporate environmental compliance. The integration of tasks will be done in a gradual manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and policies (related to the transportation, customs and other).

  • Stay informed and proactive about any changes to regulations, classifications and to export and environmental requirements.

  • Act as internal auditor.

  • Assist in the management of received materials that are not in compliance.

  • Assist all customers, suppliers and authorities in their audits and track all recommended improvements implementation.

  • Participate in the management of training programs.

  • Help draft reports required by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MELCC)

  • Prepare the drafting of modifications to ministerial permits (residual hazardous materials and non-hazardous residual materials) and requests from the MELCC.

  • Participate in building safety management.

  • Performs all other tasks assigned by the management team

  • Coordinates with EH&S corporate team the implementation of EH&S and Compliance programs from Reworld

  • Peer review of all safety programs for adequacy, compliance, and improvement opportunity.

  • Insures and monitors supplier’s compliance to Reworld’s standards

  • Assists other teams (operation, transportation, chemists, sales) in resolving issues.

  • Identify compliance risks, resolve compliance issues and ensure that action plans are developed and implemented.

  • Updating the internal quality control system (writing procedures, preparing audit forms, conducting internal audits, etc.)

  • Ensure compliance of all documentations such as procedures, policies, SOP, forms for Chambly’s site.

  • Support the investigation process and ensure that corrective plans are put in place, communicated and followed.

  • Implement and follow all internal audit programs.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or equivalent work experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French

  • Able to meet tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure

  • Strong organizational, planning and priority management skills

  • Strong analytical and synthetic skills

  • Team spirit

  • Knowledge of various laws and regulations applicable to waste management and transportation of hazardous materials

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

  • Experience in compliance audits or environmental management (an asset)

  • Relevant training or experience in quality and environmental management (an asset)

  • Years of experience: 3+ years of experience as a safety and/or environmental professional

  • ** This is an 18-month full-time contract**
