Due to the retirement of the incumbent, Rocky View Schools (RVS) invites applications for the position of Associate Superintendent of Schools. Duties will commence August 5, 2025, or as mutually agreed.

The Division

RVS is situated on the traditional territories of the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta including the Siksikaitsitapi (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani, Amskapi Pikuni), the Tsuutina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations (Bearspaw, Chiniki, Goodstoney), and the Rocky View Métis District. It encompasses both urban and rural communities to the north, east and west of Calgary and includes the municipalities of Airdrie, Chestermere, Cochrane, Crossfield, Irricana, Beiseker, and Rocky View County. RVS serves the educational needs of nearly 30,000 students within 53 schools. The Board of Trustees is comprised of 8 trustees elected from wards across the Division. As champions of public education, the Board provides thoughtful oversite and promotes an open and transparent education system that strives to connect with all students to ensure that everyone learns, belongs, and succeeds.

RVS employs more than 3,000 staff and its annual operating budget is approximately $320 million. RVS is in a strong financial position and known for its innovative culture. The Division office is in the City of Airdrie which is a short drive from the Calgary International Airport and 30 minutes from downtown Calgary.

The Role

The Associate Superintendent of Schools collaborates closely with the Superintendent of Schools and other members of the executive team. They support schools to achieve the goals and priorities of the strategic plan and education plan. They oversee a team of leaders who provide day-to-day support to school administration teams and other designated functions. They serve a key role in supporting parents who have been unable to resolve issues at the classroom or school level. They also work with all other functions across the organization to help students meet the standards of education set by the Minister.

The Candidate

RVS seeks a proven, collaborative instructional leader with 15+ years of professional experience teaching and leading in school roles and preferably with divisional leadership experience. The ideal candidate will have built and maintained high functioning, multi-disciplinary, dynamic teams. They have consistently demonstrated their ability to creatively solve problems, while overseeing a broad portfolio of services and supports. They have co-developed a common vision and then put actions and supports into place to deliver on the vision, all in an effort to achieve student success. They are committed to the organization, which is evident through their actions.

The successful candidate holds a Masters degree in a relevant field, Alberta teaching certification, Alberta Leadership Quality Standard certification and preferably Superintendent Leadership Quality Standard certification.

The ideal candidate will have an unwavering commitment to student achievement. They bring broad experience in areas that include school leadership, school operations at various grade levels, administrative procedure and policy development, mentoring school and system leaders, curriculum implementation and resource utilization and development, professional learning planning and delivery, planning and delivery of inclusive learning environment, developing and maintaining positive and productive external partnerships, leading and supporting strategic planning.

They have experience leveraging technology to enhance and extend learning opportunities for all learners and the organization as a whole. They recognize the importance of ongoing professional learning and mentoring as a means to support system improvement.

The successful candidate will be able to build strong working relationships, support the jurisdictions goals, demonstrate compassion, champion public education, work collaboratively with local and provincial partners, and maintain accountability for the work of the team. They balance attention to details along with an understanding of the big picture. They develop strong, positive working relationships with all employees and groups that represent those employees.

The successful candidate will be a personable, approachable leader, who is a strong communicator with a good understanding and ability to lead initiatives in support of divisional goals.
