The Senior Health and Safety Specialist is a full member of the frontline team at the Montreal plant, reporting to the Plant Manager, and will be responsible for supervising a Health and Safety Specialist.The Senior Specialist primarily acts as a Health and Safety advisor to the Plant Manager, area managers, and supervisors.
They serve as a positive role model for a strong health and safety culture, encouraging everyone to take ownership of their roles and responsibilities regarding workplace health and safety.
They are also responsible for ensuring alignment with the corporate Health and Safety strategy, as cascaded by senior leadership, in collaboration with the Plant Manager and with support from the Health and Safety Specialist under their supervision.

Responsabilities
- Implement initiatives to enhance the Health and Safety culture at the Montreal plant in collaboration with the Plant Manager;
- Plan, coordinate, and lead the Health and Safety Committee with the Plant Manager and/or area managers;
- Act as an expert during accident investigations and root cause analyses;
- Participate in various operational meetings requiring their expertise;
- Ensure a sufficient floor presence, alternating with the Health and Safety Specialist under their supervision;
- Analyze KPIs and collaborate on the development of required action plans;
- Make recommendations in line with applicable laws, compliance programs, internal procedures, and directives;
- Participate in the development and implementation of compliance programs at the plant level, under the governance of Sanimax’s senior leadership;
- Contribute to risk identification and analysis (HIRA);
- Participate in the analysis and approval of WHMIS documentation;
- Ensure documentation, archiving, and transmission of reports, studies, records, KPIs, action plans, and analyses;
- Produce certain reports and update KPIs for management, with the help of the Health and Safety Specialist;
- Act as a subject-matter expert in developing or reviewing specific training materials, and may occasionally act as a trainer.
Qualifications
- Monday to Friday daytime schedule ( 7 am to 4 pm) must be flexible for any emergencies.
- Must be available to come to work in person every working days.
- University degree or college diploma in Health and Safety or a related field;
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Health and Safety Manager, or a relevant advisor role will be considered;
- Experience in training and personnel management;
- Experience in a unionized industrial environment (strong asset);
- Health and Safety training for construction sites (asset).
- Knowledge of industrial laws and regulations, including Health and Safety;
- Strong abilities in change management, analysis, and problem-solving;
- Excellent priority management skills;
- Strong communicator, autonomous, and proactive;
- Good team spirit and leadership skills;
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook);
- Fluency in French and English, both spoken and written.
