LEARNING ASSISTANCE TEACHER
Elementary / Middle/Secondary Schools
Central Okanagan Public Schools (School District No. 23) in Kelowna, BC invites applications from dedicated and enthusiastic professional educators for positions in Learning Assistance as per School District Policy #505 and #505R for full and part time temporary contracts, and Teachers Teaching on Call (TTOC) positions.
Applicants must:
have a Master’s Degree or post graduate diploma in Special Education / Inclusive Education;
possess a British Columbia Professional Teaching Certificate.
Applicants must also :
be prepared to work with students who demonstrate a wide range of learning and behavioural need;
coordinate and administer assessments, and maintain detailed records;
be prepared to provide direct and indirect service within classrooms;
be prepared to plan collaboratively with students, parents, teachers and support staff to develop appropriate plans to ensure the student learning (IEP/AIP);
have experience in differentiating and providing inclusive learning opportunities that reflect the unique needs and interests of all students;
be prepared to use technology (e.g.: computers, Smartboards, digital portfolios, voice-mail, e-mail, websites, MyEd BC) for communication, planning, classroom instruction and reporting purposes;
be prepared to participate in the implementation of the school level Collaborative Model of Support and work to develop the School District Attributes for the 21st Century in all students - Learner, Thinker, Innovator, Collaborator, and Contributor.
Preference will be given to those applicants who :
have training and/or experience as a Learning Assistance teacher;
are able to administer assessments such as Woodcock Johnson, Key Math, Jerry Johns, WISC;
can collect data for the purpose of completing a "Functional Behaviour Assessment";
have experience using PM Benchmarks, Read Naturally, Kurzweil, Touch Math and Trevor Caulkin’s Power of 10 Math;
have training/experience in the use of Quality Assessment practices (e.g.: differentiated instruction, criterion-referenced grading, Assessment for Learning).
The starting annual salary for this teaching position ranges from $57,972 to $106,217, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
