PAINTERDivision: 2 (Maintenance)Reports to: Maintenance SupervisorJob SummaryWith minimal direction by a Crew Chief, the Painter performs interior and exterior painting. He/she works cooperatively with other employees, students and the public.Duties and ResponsibilitiesPrepares and paints, stains or varnishes interior and exterior surfaces including sanding, filling and pressure washing.Performs paper hanging, sign painting and stencilling.Repairs stucco walls.Mixes and colour matches paints.Estimates materials required for minor projects.Coordinates workload of Trades Helpers or other maintenance employees.Supervises apprentices.Reports supplies inventory levels.Reports work completed including time and materials used.Cleans shop including emptying garbage cans.Performs other maintenance related or emergent duties.Equipment UsedHand tools, power tools, air tools, brushes, pressure washer, sand blaster, ladder, scaffolding, aerial bucket, truck, paint mixer and other painter's equipment.Required Knowledge, Ability, SkillsHigh school diploma or equivalent.A valid B.C. or interprovincial Trades Painter CertificateA valid B.C. Class 5 driver's licence.Knowledge of health and safety procedures, including Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System and Workers' Compensation Board regulations Ability to plan and schedule work and organize the workload effectively.Ability to work in confined areas and at heights.Ability to maintain close attention to detail.Ability to use courtesy and tact in the explanation of and discussion of information in contacts with students, suppliers and other staff.Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.Ability to perform individually and as part of a team.
