Position Summary:
The Langley School District No. 35 is seeking a full-time, Homestay Coordinator (Exempt) for its International Student Program (ISP) to cover a Maternity Leave. Reporting to the Homestay Manager, the Homestay Coordinator, as part of a team, will be responsible for managing and coordinating short-term, summer, and long-term Homestay placements for international students in the Langley School District. This excluded coordinator position will recruit, visit, interview, select, and monitor families to ensure an ideal homestay match for international students. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing training, orientation, and on-going support for homestay families, international students and Secondary International Student Coordinators.
Responsibilities :
Coordinate Homestay placements for international students (long term, short term and summer)
Recruit, visit, revisit, interview, select and monitor families to ensure an ideal homestay match.
Provide training, orientation and ongoing support for homestay families, international students, and ISP Coordinators.
Support Homestay families, international students, and ISP Coordinators with homestay issues and problems.
Be on call outside normal work hours (24-hour emergency phone on rotational basis) to assist with homestay issues and problems and ensure that District protocol is followed in emergency situations.
Accompany international students on a variety of district excursions/trips planned throughout the school year.
Create program publications and assist with the development of program policies and procedures and ensure these are updated in Homestay Handbook.
Work collaboratively with Program Assistants to ensure program information, airport pickup, and other clerical functions are carried out.
Assist with school tours with agents/students when required
Entering on database of all homestay information (district and private) and ensuring this information is up to date.
Inform Admissions when custodianship documents are required for a student changing from private to district and vice versa.
Follow Homestay Incident Report Protocols (support school coordinators/homestay families for homestay issues including homestay behavior contracts).
Act as custodian for district homestay students (as necessary).
Performs other assigned comparable duties which are within the scope of knowledge, skills and abilities required by this position as assigned.
Coordinators provide support to students and homestays through a variety of personal situations, which may arise at any time. This support can include:
facilitating homestay relocations,
leading and mediating conversations with host families and students regarding program expectations,
addressing other unique challenges, sometimes requiring clear conversations about program processes.
Other duties as assigned by the District Principal of the International Student Program.
Qualifications:
A minimum of two years of post-secondary education/training.
One year of experience working in homestay services and/or equivalent combination of training.
Possession of a valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle, as travel to different locations will be necessary.
Knowledge and understanding of other cultures and languages are a strong asset.
Promotional and Advertising experience would be an asset.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Salary Range: $70,897 - $88,622
