SUMMARY:
Reports to and works under the direction of the Secondary School Principal or his/her designate. Operates, maintains and promotes school based Career Centre. Works collaboratively with district coordinators, career advisors, school counsellors, career programs teachers, and/or classroom teachers in providing current post- secondary education, scholarship, and occupational information to students, parents, staff and community members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 5 years recent relevant work experience with knowledge of and/or exposure to vocational, professional and industry opportunities or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Familiarity with the Ministry of Education Graduation Program.
Good interpersonal, organizational and communication (both written and oral) and industrial opportunities skills. Ability to use judgement and tact in providing information.
Ability to organize and present information to a variety of groups and individuals. Ability to act on own initiative and to work independently.
Skill in the operation and application of the designated computerized career programs.
Knowledge of adolescent behaviour and psychology or experience working with secondary school age students is an asset.
Experience and skill in word processing/database/spreadsheet/presentation applications plus the operation of office equipment and audio-visual equipment.
Physical ability to perform the duties required.
Knowledge of WCB and WHMIS regulations. Safe work habits.
Some positions may require the knowledge of a language other than English.
Completion of post secondary courses in career counselling, career aptitude testing and interpersonal and group communications equivalent to 12 months at a college level.
