The Delta School District is hiring a Secondary Indigenous Success Coordinator. The overall goal of this position is to help improve the personal and academic success of Secondary students with Indigenous ancestry. Reporting to the District Principal of Indigenous Education, the Coordinator will work with members of the Indigenous Education department as well as with members of the Learning Services team, specifically in Inclusive Learning, to help provide wrap-around support for students.

Duties:

Collaborate with members of the Inclusive Learning team to review students and families with Indigenous ancestry who are requiring: tier 3 supports; assistance to re-engage students in school; or guidance with outside agency supports. The students may have high or low incidence designations and corresponding needs.

Communicate with school personnel (Administrators, Teachers, Counsellors, Career Advisors, EAs, CYCWs) to discuss the needs of students who have been brought to School Based Team or who have been flagged by the Indigenous Education team monitoring process of attendance and grad course completion.

Coordinate and schedule the Social/Emotional Behavioral Strategists (SEBS) to work with students who are experiencing behavioral difficulties or disengagement with school. This will include developing customized/unique success plans (unique from Individual Education Plans) with the SEBS for students with complex needs that will be shared with the schools.

Develop and monitor a systematic program for tracking secondary student success (including attendance and grad course completion data)

Attend CARE team meetings and help families navigate school, district, and community support and services to ensure a holistic wraparound approach is created for student success.

Attend regular meetings in the Indigenous Education Department and the Learning Services department to ensure success plans are in place and revised as necessary

Work in partnership with the Tsawwassen First Nation Education Department staff as the Indigenous Education department meets with them on a bi-weekly basis to review secondary TFN students.
