THE OPPORTUNITY: SENIOR ACCOUNTANT - CAPITAL PROJECTS
(TECHNICAL & RESOURCE SUPPORT E)
In this position, you will:
Perform month end, quarter end and year end procedures relating to capital and maintenance
Review and maintain the accounting for the capital area, Annual Facilities Grant, and leases, and prepare reconciliations and analysis
Prepare schedules and documentation for the capital area to support District financial reporting and in accordance with accounting standards
Prepare tangible capital asset continuity schedules and deferred capital revenue schedules in accordance with standards and timelines set by the Ministry of Education and Child Care
Prepare capital project expenditure reports for the Ministry of Education and VBE
Support budgets and prepare financial analysis for the Facilities Division and make recommendations to improve processes and procedures
Prepare capital forecasts to be included in the Annual Financial Plan
Investigate variances, and initiate corrective action when necessary
Liaise with internal parties and external parties
Provide accounting training/overview to new staff in the Facilities Division
Maintain records for capital project agreements and certificates of approval
Process and manage funding draws for capital projects
Prepare ad hoc analysis and reporting of a wide range of data sets for both internal and external audiences
Provide ad hoc support as required
Provide Technical & Resource support to the Finance Division, the Facilities Division, and the Vancouver Project Office relating to the capital and maintenance areas
Perform other work within the job band as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid CPA designation
Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant senior accounting experience
Working knowledge of Canadian generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and experience with accounting for capital projects and contracts and experience with Fund Accounting
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs with strong advanced Excel skills
Results oriented individual with strong analytical skills and proven ability to establish priorities and meet tight and often conflicting deadlines
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment providing support to multiple staff
Experience with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and PeopleSoft Financials an asset
Must be able to meet the following assessments: Excel (+70%) and applicable Accounting.
COMPENSATION
The salary for this position is $46.37/hour (paid as 7 hours/day) plus a comprehensive benefits package, including Municipal Pension Plan, Vancouver Employee Savings Plan, Extended Health, Dental, Group Life, Long Term Disability, Vacation, & Gratuity Days.
