CASUAL CHEF ASSISTANT
Job Function:
Reports to the Teaching Chef under the direction of the Principal
Assists the Teaching Chef in the training kitchen/cafeteria with the production and services of daily meals
Assists the students to learn proper processing methods and evaluating the products
Assists with the control of foods in progress and a continuous food supply during the lunch periods
Works with students in training, giving guidance both in food production and cleanup
Other related duties as required
Qualifications:
Grade 12 graduation
Two (2) year diploma/certificate in technical school training in Culinary Arts
Vocational level certificate in Baking
Food Safe Certification
Two (2) years of industry experience, preferably in a school setting working with teens
Good organizational skills
Recognized ability to work in a team environment
Ability to communicate effectively with adults and students
Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
Knowledge of basic accounting procedures, spreadsheet and database creation and modification
Hours of Work & Salary:
Casual shifts range from 4 to 7.5 hours per day, Monday - Friday, while schools are in session
Short-term assignments may also be available
Casual employment may lead to a regular position in the district
Chef Assistant pay is $34.84 per hour
