PLUMBER/HVAC TECHNICIAN (Minimum 2nd Year Apprentice applications will be considered)

Job Function:

Reports to the Maintenance Manager, or designate

Responsible for a wide range of tasks requiring, semi-skilled, skilled and highly skilled journeyman performance

Responsible for all tasks relating to plumbing, gas fitting, metal fabrication and welding

Clears plugs of all kinds, such as roof drains, taps and pumps

Performs a wide range of journeyman plumbing duties including but not limited to, installation or maintenance of toilets, showers, sewer lines, water supplies and drainage

Maintains hydronic heating systems and controls

Installs, services and repairs heating and ventilating equipment such as boilers, heating and exhaust fans, circulating pumps, hot water tanks, natural gas and propane equipment

Performs a variety of steam fitting and pipefitting duties, inspects boilers, roof top ventilation units, forced air units, cooling plants and associated equipment

Liaises with district staff on a variety of issues related to indoor air quality, heating and cooling of district buildings and facilities

Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent including grammar, spelling, arithmetic, reading, writing and understanding English.

Trades Qualification (TQ) Certificate in Plumbing with Gasfitters Certificate (Class B) plus four years related work experience after completion of TQ.

Valid B.C. Driver's Licence (Class 5)

Ability to perform tasks in the trade of plumbing to the level of journeyman and some minor carpentry and welding tasks

Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the standards of practice, methods, materials, methods, tools and equipment of the trade.

Thorough knowledge of safety procedures related to work performed.

Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Ability to communicate effectively at the level required for the job.

Demonstrated ability to work at the level of independence and with the degree of initiative appropriate to the position

Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, students and the community.

Hours of Work & Salary:

40 hours per week, normally 7:00a.m. 3:30p.m., Monday to Friday

Red Seal $38.21 per hour

Apprentice Range ($31.62 - $33.21), progression to Red Seal rate upon certification

Full benefits package including enrollment in Municipal Pension Plan
