The Position:

The English Language Learner Teacher (0.25 fte) will work directly under the direction of the District Principal of Student Support Services to support English Language Learners across the District. The ELL Teacher works collaboratively with district and school staff in building capacity to support English language learning in the classroom for Ministry of Education and Child Care funded English language learners. This assignment is a district teaching position with responsibilities to schools and staff throughout the SD51 Family of Schools.

Generic Qualifications (All Vacancies)

The following qualifications are generic and necessary to all teaching positions in School District No. 51 (Boundary).

Applicants must have :

A certificate of qualification issued under the Teachers Act;

A Bachelor of Education or equivalent;

Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, history and communities;

Willingness to integrate appropriate Indigenous content and resources into educational programs;

Demonstrated strong classroom management skills;

Strong understanding of the revised BC curriculum;

Demonstrated successful ability to use technology as a tool to enhance and support learning;

Willingness to work collaboratively on a team that is committed to the principles of a learner-focused education system;

Willingness to work collaboratively toward improving student achievement by actively supporting the strategies and structures in the School Growth Plans;

A demonstrated successful ability to work with all students by embedding inclusive practices;

A demonstrated successful ability to adapt the teaching process to individual student needs and learning styles;

A demonstrated successful ability to provide a learning environment where all aspects of a student’s development are enhanced and extended;

A demonstrated successful ability to communicate with parents, students and other teaching staff.

Necessary Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience teaching and ability to select appropriate materials and equipment for English language learners K-7 (may extend to grades 8 - 12) whose English proficiency is beginner to intermediate

Ability to model for staff, through demonstration teaching, appropriate strategies, techniques and adaptations to assist ELL students in regular classrooms

Create Annual Individual Plans (AIPs) or Student Learning Plans (SLPs) for ELL students

Write progress reports for each reporting period

Demonstrated experience and/or training in the assessment of English language proficiency levels for English language learners

Previous successful experience teaching at the elementary level is preferred

Demonstrated current knowledge of the renewed curriculum, including the learning and core competencies and appropriate resources, is essential

Demonstrated ability to use a variety of instructional and assessment strategies is essential

Demonstrated ability to integrate appropriate technologies into educational programs

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment

Excellent communication, interpersonal and classroom management skills

Work collaboratively with the School Based Team (SBT) and the classroom teacher to identify, plan and provide service for the ELL students

Communicate regularly with SBT, classroom teachers, and parents

A valid B.C. Driver’s License
