Generic Qualifications (All Vacancies)

The following qualifications are generic and necessary to all teaching positions in School District No. 51 (Boundary).

Applicants must have :

· A certificate of qualification issued under the Teachers Act;

· A Bachelor of Education or equivalent;

· Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, history and communities;

· Willingness to integrate appropriate Indigenous content and resources into educational programs;

· Demonstrated strong classroom management skills;

· Strong understanding of the revised BC curriculum;

· Demonstrated successful ability to use technology as a tool to enhance and support learning;

· Willingness to work collaboratively on a team that is committed to the principles of a learner-focused education system;

· Willingness to work collaboratively toward improving student achievement by actively supporting the strategies and structures in the School Growth Plans;

· A demonstrated successful ability to work with all students by embedding inclusive practices;

· A demonstrated successful ability to adapt the teaching process to individual student needs and learning styles;

· A demonstrated successful ability to provide a learning environment where all aspects of a students development are enhanced and extended;

· A demonstrated successful ability to communicate with parents, students and other teaching staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

· A degree at the master's level in a field related to the work of a behaviour interventionist, Counseling, Psychology, or Special Education;

· A minimum of five credit courses in Behaviour Management / Interventions, Counseling, Exceptional Children, Mental Health and Wellness, Autism, FASD / Drug Effects, and Remedial Instruction;

· The ability to deliver individualized learning programs to all students you are assigned;

· The ability to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum-based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods, administration and interpretation of norm-referenced assessment instruments to Level B;

· A strong working knowledge of current research and practice in moderate to severe behaviour interventions, including Functional Behaviour Assessment and effective support strategies;

· A clear understanding of appropriate behavioural strategies for students of different ages including the ability to demonstrate these strategies effectively to staff and parents;

· A strong working knowledge of current research and practice in supporting students coping with anxiety, mental health and/or substance-use struggles;

· Knowledge of and ability to utilize differentiated instruction;

· A demonstrated ability to maintain current knowledge and practice of curriculum and intended learning outcomes for Senior Math, Social, First Nations Studies, Planning, English, Communications, and various electives;

· Knowledge of and ability to facilitate graduation transitions, career development, and work experience programs;

· The ability to organize and implement personalized daily Physical Education planning, monitoring, tracking, and reporting;

· The ability to administer and plan student instructional program from district read and write assessments at all levels;

· Strong classroom management skills;

· Familiarization with Inter-ministerial case conference protocols;

· Strong interest in contribution to the professional community and related activities of the school;

· Training in conflict resolution skills;

· The ability to take a leadership role and communicate clearly and effectively with staff, students, parents, and other community agencies;

· The ability to clearly articulate student progress to student, parents, guardians, stakeholders;

· The ability to integrate use of technology to support an effective learning environment; including collaborative practices in learning, i.e. Moodle
