School District No. 52 (Prince Rupert) is located within traditional Tsmsyen Territory on the beautiful north coast of B.C. and services the small communities of Hartley Bay and Port Edward in addition to the City of Prince Rupert.Currentlywe have one secondary school, one middle school, five elementary schools, one store-front site and one on reserve school (Hartley Bay, K-12). Our student population is approximately 2,000 students, 62% ofwhichare aboriginal. Our small community boasts an excellent recreation facility (ice arena, swimming pool and gymnasium), an 18-hole golf course, racquet centre, tennis court, museum and a 700-seat performing art centre. SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 52 (PRINCE RUPERT) TEACHING POSITION S Posting 2 02 5 - 9 9 Applications are invited for the following teaching position s in School District # 52 (Prince Rupert). Generic Qualifications (All Vacancies) The following qualifications are generic and necessary to all teaching positions in School District #52 (Prince Rupert) . Applicants must have: a certificate of qualification issued under the Teachers Act ; a Bachelor of Education or equivalent ; a thorough knowledge and understanding of local Indigenous culture, history and communities; willingness to integrate appropriate Indigenous content and resources into educational programs; excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated strong classroom management skills; willingness to integrate appropriate technologies into educational programs; the demonstrated ability to work co-operatively with teaching and non-teaching staff and parents/guardians; be willing to work collaboratively on a team that is committed to the principles of a learner-focused education system; willingness to work collaboratively toward improving student achievement by actively supporting the strategies and structures in the School Improvement Plan s , the District (Aboriginal Education) Partnership Agreement, and the District Framework for Enhancing Student Learning (formerly known as the Achievement Plan) Charles Hays secondary school Temporary , part- time ( 0.5713 ) effective January 28th, 2025 to June 30 th 2025 . Initial assignment to Smalgyax 9 and Smalgyax 10 . This is a leave replacement. Necessary qualifications include: Specialization in secondary school instruction; Recent, successful secondary school experience; Higher level fluency in the Smalgyax language; Willingness to work and collaborate as part of a team to coordinate and develop initiatives at t he elementary level; Willingness to support Indigenous Learners success, Indigenous understanding across the curriculum and emotional learning/self-regulation of Indigenous Learners; The ability to work both independently and as part of a dynamic team using effective time management skills ; Engage in conversations and meetings with the Indigenous Education TSLA and Lang uage Com mittee , with regards to being Ts'msyen , language proficiency , experience , and build language development . Note: This position is funded through the Aboriginal 1.31 budget . As per Section 42 of the BC Human Rights Code, preference will be given to qualified teachers of Indigenous ancestry.
