About Us: The Provincial Outreach Program for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (POPFASD) is dedicated to enhancing educators' capacity to support students with FASD. Our vision is an inclusive educational system that embraces FASD-informed practices to meet the needs of all learners.

Role Overview: We're seeking a passionate Literacy-Focused Provincial Educator to join our team. In this role, you'll empower educators across British Columbia by providing literacy-focused FASD workshops, facilitating online trainings, and developing resources. You'll collaborate with district partners, support action research grants, and contribute to our mandate.

Key Responsibilities:

Weblnars and Workshops: Design and deliver engaging online webinars and face-to-face workshops for BC educators, catering to audiences ranging from 10 to 1,000 participants.

Goal Alignment: Develop, implement, and assess annual goals that align with POPFASD's vision and mandate.

Research Skills: Utilize research skills to locate, extract, organize, evaluate, summarize, and present information relevant to various intersecting topics that enhance understanding and capacity-building in the area of FASD.

Mentorship: Provide mentorship to provincial district mentors (POPFASD District Partners).

Resource Management: Curate and maintain resources on the POPFASD website.

Community Engagement:

Maintain an active social networking presence to foster a sense of community and keep

stakeholders informed.

Contribute to a monthly newsletter to share updates, success stories, and valuable resources.

Organize and participate in educational events, both online and in-person, to promote awareness and understanding of FASD.

Collaborate with local organizations, schools, and community groups to build partnerships and support networks.

Engage with educators, parents, and community members to gather feedback and

address their needs and concerns.

Support for Grants: Promote and assist BC educators in their submissions for Collaborative Action Research Study (CARS) grants.

Tool Development: Create tools and resources to enhance understanding of literacy and FASD among BC educators.

Collaboration: Work with the Literacy Lead in planning and executing initiatives.

Job Qualifications for Literacy-Focused Provincial Educator:

Education: Master's Degree in Literacy or a related field, or a Master's in progress (an asset).

Reading Acquisition: Comprehensive understanding of the research and evidence behind reading acquisition and an in-depth knowledge of the "Big 6" components of reading: oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.

Instruction Experience: Experience implementing structured literacy through whole class, small group, and one-on-one instruction.

Assessment Skills: Ability to use evidence-based assessments to identify at-risk students, inform instruction, and monitor progress.

FASD and Literacy: Understanding of effective literacy instruction and support for students with FASD and other complex needs.

Professional Development: Experience mentoring colleagues and designing and delivering professional development for teachers.

Recent Experience in Supporting Literacy Development:

Implementing literacy programs

Supporting the implementation of literacy programs

Presenting literacy program outcomes at school or district levels

Collaborating with colleagues to enhance literacy development

Utilizing evidence-based literacy assessments

Taking on leadership roles in supporting literacy development

Providing mentorship in literacy development

Engaging in professional development in literacy

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Passion: A commitment to improving educational outcomes for students with FASD.
