OUTDOOR EDUCATION PROGRAM ASSISTANT - SUMMER CASUAL
There are positions available for Outdoor Education Program Assistant(s) - Casual, at Camp Cameron. Applications must be completed online and will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the positions are filled.
Reporting to the Outdoor Education Coordinator, this position will assist with the maintenance and facilitation of Outdoor Education programs and facilities. During the spring and fall the position will be focused on group facilitation. During the summer months, work is focused more on grounds and trail maintenance. Work will primarily occur on weekdays but may include occasional weekends.
Hours of work: On an as needed basis
Duties to Commence: May 1 to September 30, 2025
Work Year Base: Twelve (12) months per year
Commencing Salary: $29.88/hr.

Qualifications and Attributes:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search conducted by the District prior to starting employment
- Valid Class 5 drivers licence
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to be an integral part of a team
- Ability to work independently and set priorities
- WHMIS Certificate and other online safety training provided by the District to be completed within the probationary period
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the Cameron Lake Outdoor Center
- Experience working with children in group settings
- Ability to demonstrate responsible, ethical and professional conduct
- Ability to perform strenuous work on difficult terrain in a variety of environmental conditions including but not limited to:
- Working outdoors in a forested setting for up to 8 hours per day
- Hiking up to 5 km over rough terrain and conducting physically demanding work
- Self-motivated with the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, teachers, students and guests
- Ability to lead and motivate student groups in activities while ensuring behavioural expectations are abided by and provide support & instruction to others
- Dependable, flexible, and willing to learn
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
- Wilderness experience including GPS, navigation, and maps skills, etc is preferred
- Experience and ability to safely and effectively operate and maintain a wide range of hand tools, power tools, vehicles and equipment in remote areas (lopper, hand saws, rakes, shovels, axes, weed whacker, chainsaw, etc.)
- Willingness to occasionally work weekends
- Environmental and ecological knowledge
- Trails and building maintenance skills
- Canoe Certification preferred
- First aid and CPR certified (Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid) preferred or willingness to obtain within probationary period
