A temporary full time (1.0) Behavioural Support Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026. The assignment will be at Learning Services.
The Behaviour Support Teacher will join the Inclusion Division at Learning Services to provide district and school level support for students who have difficulty self-regulating and demonstrate challenging behaviours. The Behaviour Support Teacher will conduct functional behaviour assessments, support the design, team training, and implementation of Positive Behaviour Support plans (PBS), and assist with site-specific safety training for school personnel. Additionally, the Behaviour Support Teacher will be involved in the educational programming for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
This position is from September 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026 with the possibility of an extension.
Nature and Scope:
- Administer, conduct, evaluate, and supervise functional behavioral assessments.
- Provide effective delivery of evidence-based behavior services through designing positive behaviour support plans based on assessment results.
- Prepare plans, train and support staff and students through providing personalized goals for students and group programs. This includes follow through implementation support.
- Review progress reports, evaluate behaviour plans, and achievement of individual goals and program objectives.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team in the educational setting.
- As required, be involved in IEP development and implementation for students with ASD.
- Maintain strong ties with the autism community, behavioural consultant services and the community living field to coordinate support and resources.
Qualifications and Experience
- Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
- Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach curriculum from K to 12
- Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
- Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
- Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
- Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
- Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
- Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
- Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity
- Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
- Demonstrated ability to identify, work with and assist students who are experiencing difficulties
- Certified BCBA is preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively to develop programs to develop social skills, self-esteem, anger and anxiety management, bullying prevention and coping with peer pressure
- Experience with Function Analysis of Behaviour, Behaviour Intervention Plans
- Ability to work with students experiencing learning difficulties
- Master's degree (or in progress) in special education, counselling or a related area of study
- Experience or ability to work with intensive behaviour students one-on-one or in small groups
- Experience completing functional behaviour analyses (FBA) and behaviour intervention plans (BIP)
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with school staff, school-based team, Indigenous Education Team and the Strength First Program
- Knowledge of outside agencies and the ability to coordinate wraparound support for students on their caseload
- Knowledge and understanding of how mental health can impact student behaviour
- Experience or ability to design and implement Tier 2 and 3 plans for students on their caseload
- Ability to act as a liaison between parents/guardians and the school
- Excellent self-regulation and ability to remain calm in extremely stressful situations

Compensation
-
$2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas.

$3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)

Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 - $111,952

Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE.
