Position Description
A temporary full time (1.0) Library/Learning Assistant/Secondary Fine Arts Prep Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective December 12, 2024 until the return of the incumbent but not beyond June 30, 2025. The assignment will be at Clearview Elementary/Jr. Secondary School.
Clearview is a K-9 rural school located 30 minutes northeast from the thriving community of Fort St John. The economy of the area is based mainly on farming, the gas/oil industry, and some logging. The school is nestled on top of a hill that provides a clear view of the rolling hills and vast sky. Of our student population of 110 students, twenty percent are Indigenous students. Our school enjoys itinerant access to a range of services supporting areas such as Inclusion, ELL, Counseling and Aboriginal Counseling
Qualifications and Experience
Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects
Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity
Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
Masters in Special Education or working towards
Post-secondary education in library sciences
Experience as a teacher-librarian
Experience with balanced literacy program
Ability/experience
to carry out a variety of assessment, including classroom observation,
administration and interpretation of norm- reference assessment
instruments, curriculum-based assessments, and diagnostic teaching
methods
Ability
to implement extensive Individual Education Programs (IEP's) (detailing
adaptations and modifications) in consultation with classroom teachers,
parents, students and district resource personnel
Experience planning with Teachers and Education Assistants
Supportive of school planning and direction
Committed to professional development
Ability/desire to work collaboratively with students, staff and parents
Experience/working
knowledge of Assessment for Learning, Math Makes Sense, Criterion
Referenced Performance based assessment, Guided Reading, Power of Ten
and Literacy in Action
Ability to differentiate instruction using UDL (Universal Design for Learning) to support varying learning needs
Experience/willingness to utilize technology (I-pads) to facilitate/supplement student learning
Ability/experience to support students designated with Chronic Health
Ability to support teachers within adapted classes in literacy, numeracy and science
Wide range of teaching and management strategies
Knowledge of numeracy and literacy curriculum at the elementary intermediate level
Knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of special needs
Ability/expertise to work with students either individually or in small groups or in a classroom setting
Advocacy for and empathy with students with special needs
Ability to work with students experiencing learning difficulties
Experience/training/knowledge of Positive Behavior Support (PBS)

Compensation
$2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
$3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 - $111,952
Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
Subsidized and affordable staff housing for rural positions
Isolation allowance of $449.87 paid over 10 months
