Position Description

A temporary full time (1.0) District School Psychologist is required

by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1,

2025 to June 30, 2026. The assignment will be at Learning Services.

The school Psychologist functions as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

We are dedicated to providing services that assist students to develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge required tosuccessfully participatein

educational experiences. We provide indirect and direct service to the

student and/or the school community. Our collective knowledge, skills,

energy, creativity and empathy support and nurture this process.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Doctorate or Master's degree in educational psychology, or related

    field, with a focus on school psychology, (including graduate training in

    measurement and individual psychological assessments) and a successful completed practicum.

  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education, Special Education Policies and Procedures

  • Current membership, in good standing, with the College of Health Care Professionals of British Columbia

  • Ability to participate in meetings within and beyond the regular school day to support learning

  • Provides psycho-educational assessments for students referred through the school-based team process

  • Provides ongoing collaborative planning for students and classrooms and assists with pre-referral interventions

  • Assists with the Ministry of Education processes for designation and adjudication

  • Candidates for internship must already be participating in a Master's of School Psychology program that requires an internship

  • Consultation with teachers, support staff, parents, students and

    community agencies regarding student strengths and needs, assessment

    implications, and interventions through which to enhance learning and

    interpersonal relations

  • Collaboration with school-based and/or district personnel to

    gather classroom-based data, design or implement instructional

    strategies/interventions and/or design and implement behavioral

    interventions

  • Psychologist may assist school and district staff in proving

    additional "Pro D" support for educators and support staff (e.g.,

    behaviour management, observational techniques/data gathering, PBS,RTI,

    AFL, UDL), and participate or assist in program evaluation and research

    activities.

  • Ability to plan and facilitate in-services or collaboration

    sessions with educators and Educational Assistants within and beyond the

    regular school day

Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)

  • Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects

  • Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students

  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills

  • Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging

  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn

  • Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition

  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning

  • Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity

  • Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity

  • Ability to participate in meetings within and beyond the regular school day to support learning

  • Ability to plan and facilitate in-services or collaboration sessions with educators and Educational Assistants within and beyond the regular school day

  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate)

Compensation

  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas.

  • $3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)

  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 - $111,952

  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE.
