Position Description

A temporary part time (0.8) Library/Learning Assistant/Prep Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026. The assignment will be at

Baldonnel Elementary School is a rural K-6 school located 15 minutes from Fort St John and midway between Fort St John and the community of Taylor.The school has a student population of 110 students, 30% of whom are Indigenous students.Our school has a staffing complement of 10 very dedicated and collegial individuals.District Itinerant Staff provide a range of services to our school.Our students also participate in the District elementary sports programs, District Band program, and the District Gifted and Enrichment program.Baldonnel also has an active Parent Advisory Council (PAC). Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the elementary years level
  • Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
  • Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
  • Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity
  • Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
  • Masters in Special Education or working towards
  • Post-secondary education in library sciences
  • Experience as a teacher-librarian
  • Experience withbalanced literacy program
  • Ability/experience

    to carry out a variety of assessment, including classroom observation,

    administration and interpretation of norm- reference assessment

    instruments, curriculum-based assessments, and diagnostic teaching

    methods

  • Ability

    to implement extensive Individual Education Programs (IEP's) (detailing

    adaptations and modifications) in consultation with classroom teachers,

    parents, students and district resource personnel

  • Experience planning with Teachers and Education Assistants
  • Supportive of school planning and direction
  • Committed to professional development
  • Ability/desire to work collaboratively with students, staff and parents
  • Experience/working

    knowledge of Assessment for Learning, Math Makes Sense, Criterion

    Referenced Performance based assessment, Guided Reading, Power of Ten

    and Literacy in Action

  • Ability to differentiate instruction using UDL (Universal Design for Learning) to support varying learning needs
  • Experience/willingness to utilize technology (I-pads) to facilitate/supplement student learning
  • Ability/experience to support students designated with Chronic Health
  • Ability to support teachers within adapted classes in literacy, numeracy and science
  • Wide range of teaching and management strategies
  • Knowledge of numeracy and literacy curriculum at the elementary intermediate level
  • Knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of special needs
  • Ability/expertise to work with students either individually or in small groups or in a classroom setting
  • Advocacy for and empathy with students with special needs
  • Ability to work with students experiencing learning difficulties
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Positive Behavior Support (PBS)

Compensation

  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
  • $3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 - $111,952
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
