Elementary School Vice-Principal (Gr K-5)

The Saanich School District (SD63) invites applications from qualified applicants for Elementary School Vice-Principal (initial assignment to be determined) effective August 1, 2025.

Located on the beautiful Saanich Peninsula near Victoria, the Saanich School District serves approximately 7,500 students in eight elementary, three middle and three secondary schools, as well as two Individual Learning Centres (ILC), a successful Provincial Online Learning School (South Island Distance Education School, SIDES) and the Children's Development Centre (CDC). The District employs 650 teachers, 38 principals and vice-principals, 500 unionized support staff, 21 exempt management staff, all within an annual operational budget of $100 million.

Strong working relationships with all partner groups, including the local WSÁNEĆ First Nation, have resulted in the Saanich School District having a well-established reputation of excellent student achievement and program innovation within a strong culture of caring and respect.

The successful applicant must also demonstrate an extensive track record of experience in elementary school teaching, instructional leadership and working with diverse learners including First Nations students and their families.

Qualifications

  • A Masters degree in educational leadership, curriculum development, supervision of instruction, counselling or a related field;
  • A current teaching Certificate of Qualification from the BC Teacher Regulation Branch; and
  • Proven teaching success in K-12 education with experience at the elementary level.

  • Demonstrated understanding and respect for Indigenous learning and learners as well as knowledge of the WSÁNEĆ First Nations;
  • Proven examples of a collaborative, consensus seeking leadership style;
  • Highly effective and respectful interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills;
  • Evidenced leadership in the supervision of learning;
  • Leadership promoting curriculum and current teaching pedagogy including the use of appropriate educational technology;
  • Creation of innovative practices within an inquiry-based teaching and learning environment;
  • Strong organizational and management skills;
  • Effective leadership during critical incidents and other stressful conditions;
  • Thorough understanding of effective assessment and evaluation practices; and
  • Implementing district operational decisions particularly as they pertain to the Board's Strategic Plan.
Areas of Responsibility
  • Sharing administrative and leadership responsibilities with the Principal;
  • Assisting the Principal in the organization and development of an educational program in support of student achievement, including managing data and working on the School Plan;
  • Assisting the Principal in the implementation of the various initiatives including supporting an orderly, respectful, safe and caring school environment;
  • Assuming responsibility for facility issues including site safety, emergency preparedness and community use;
  • Enhancing a consultative, collaborative, teamwork approach in the school, district, community and with parents;
  • Providing leadership in curriculum, instruction, assessment and evaluation for Kindergarten to Grade 5;
  • Promoting and including the First Peoples Principles of Learning, including a strong advocacy of Indigenizing curriculum and instruction;
  • Promoting and implementing the Principles of Inclusive Schools, including a strong advocacy for students with diverse learning needs; and
  • Teaching assignment of approximately 0.7 FTE.
The Saanich School District offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The salary range for this position is $130,901 - $138,313.
