Groundsperson II

Are you passionate about maintaining beautiful outdoor spaces and contributing to the environment of our school community? Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Groundsperson to help ensure our school sites are safe, clean, and welcoming for students, staff, and families. In this vital role, you’ll be responsible for the upkeep of our grounds, enhancing the educational experience for all. Working under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor or designate, you will perform a variety of duties related to the maintenance of the School District grounds.

Operates equipment, vehicles, trucks and tractors, with or without attachments, and/or in combination with trailer units.

Installs nd maintains playfield and playground components such as fences, gates, goal posts, basketball hoops and playground equipment using site plans and working drawings.

Constructs, renovates and maintains playfields including fertilizing/liming, dressing, aerating, seeding and rock picking.

Installs and/or maintains blacktop and concrete on small projects

Directs, advises and assists other employees as appropriate.

Orders materials as needed.

May on occasion be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

Assignment: Permanent, Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm

Wage: $31.12 per hour with a competitive pension and benefit package.

Your Education and Experience

Grade 12 Graduation or equivalent

Training in the operation of heavy duty equipment and two years related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Valid BC Class 1 Driver License and Air Brake Endorsement required to operate all school district vehicles

Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions

Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
