About Qualicum School District

Qualicum School District is centrally situated on east Vancouver Island and covers the area of Nanoose Bay to Bowser and spans from Errington across the Strait of Georgia to Lasqueti Island. We serve a student population of approximately 4700 students. Qualicum School District consists of eight elementary schools (Grades K-7), two secondary schools (Grade 8-12), an alternate school (PASS/Woodwinds) and a Distributed Learning program to support home-learning families called the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP). False Bay School on Lasqueti Island is entirely off-grid with an immense solar project recently completed. POSITION: Temporary Information Technology Services Technician: Level 1

40.00 hours per week, 12 months per year, until October 15, 2025.

JOB FUNCTION: Provides computer and devices support and technical assistance to end users. Installs, supports and maintains software and applications, computer systems, networks and equipment. Provides user support, development and training on systems applications; escalates support requests to Level 2 as required.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:

1. Investigates, diagnoses and resolves hardware, software, network, internet access and telephone issues.

2. Provides technical support on Local and Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN) including installation and maintenance.

3. Installs and provides diagnostic and preventative maintenance and repairs on computer hardware and peripherals.

4. Provides support and administration of software including applications, email and communication services.

5. Provides end-user training and technical support for software applications.

6. Implements and maintains configuration of hardware and software systems for end users.

7. Assists with web sites maintenance and support.

8. Maintains and provides input on hardware and software standards.

REQUIRED ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Grade 12.

• Two-year diploma in computer sciences/technology.

• Three years recent experience in computer and network operations, troubleshooting and user support (in a corporate networked environment).

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Work independently with minimal supervision as well as working as part of a team.

• Remaining current in the field.

• B.C. Class 5 driver's license.
