School District No. 73 is currently accepting applications for relief Certified Education Assistant 4 (CEA 4), with the potential of full-time temporary employment for the 2024/25 school year.

The CEA 4 carries out a variety of tasks associated with the implementation of an individual or group education program while providing support for the social, emotional, behavioural and intellectual needs of the student(s) assigned to them. Also provides support and input into program development as part of a classroom team.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Assists classroom teacher in all aspects of daily classroom activities, including direct involvement with either individual or small group of students with genetic or organically based disorders where their behaviour is deliberate, intentional, dangerous and exhibited on a frequent and ongoing basis.

Required to analyze student(s) behaviour(s) and modify inappropriate behaviour(s) to comply with societal expectations.

Utilizes a variety of skills to meet the social, emotional, behaviourial and curriculum needs of students who may be both socially and emotionally troubled.

May be required to lift and/or restrain students on a regular basis.

Assists with the development of various social, emotional, behaviourial and curriculum needs.

Observes, monitors, evaluates, records and provides feedback in areas identified as specific program goals/needs.

Prepares and modifies a variety of classroom materials as required.

Assists students involved in the integration process.

Participates in integration follow-up meetings.

Provides noon hour supervision and other supervision as required.

Participates in extended field trips and class activities/outings.

Assists with the development, implementation and reinforcement of behaviourial expectations appropriate conduct.

Interacts with parents, teachers and outside government/social agencies.

Uses appropriate behaviour intervention techniques.

Takes an active participatory role in home visits and counselling sessions while ensuring confidentiality is maintained.

Other related duties as required/assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Grade 12 supplemented by completion of a minimum of two (2) years post-secondary education in a recognized program.

Three (3) year’s proven previous work experience involving children with severe social, emotional and behavioural needs, one of which should involve experience at Level 3-Behaviour.

Some positions require a valid B.C. Driver’s License.
