Heating/Refrigeration Technician

School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson) is currently accepting applications for the position of Heating/Refrigeration Technician.

This is a full-time permanent position. Following successful completion of the probationary period, the incumbent will be eligible for Extended Health and Dental Benefits, as well as Group Life and LTD Insurance. School District No. 73 belongs to the Municipal Pension Plan.

Under the limited supervision of the Manager of Facility Maintenance, the incumbent is required to perform a variety of skilled tasks at the Journeyman level related to the heating/refrigeration trade. Work is varied and requires independent judgement and initiative supplemented by technical expertise.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Installs various types of heating and cooling equipment and associated controls in accordance with local codes.

Overhauls, repairs, maintains and modifies existing equipment and associated controls.

Travels to School District work sites as needed.

Troubleshoots and maintains heating ventilations and refrigeration systems according to codes, work orders, and preventative maintenance program.

Performs any and all duties pertaining to the heating/refrigeration trade as directed.

Order necessary supplies and equipment and makes recommendations on the purchase of same.

Other assigned job related duties.

ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, Administrative Officers and other employees of the Board and outside agencies/suppliers.

Ability to organize and prioritize workload with minimal supervision.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools/equipment.

Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the heating refrigeration trade.

Thorough knowledge of Direct Digital Control Systems including programming would be an asset.

Gas fitter’s A ticket would be a definite asset.

Basic computer skills (email, work orders, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Grade 12 supplemented by full qualifications at the Journeyman level and appropriate restricted Electrical Worker’s certificate and Gas certificate.

Must possess a valid Interprovincial Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic TQ certificate plus five years proven previous work experience in the heating/refrigeration field after designation.

Must be physically able to perform all duties of the position.

Valid B.C. Driver's License
