Summary

Working under the direction of the Director of Facilities and with the general supervision of the Foreman, the Labourer-Facilities provides maintenance of the mechanical spaces and provides general Labourer support for engineering, building maintenance, and grounds keeping, as required. The job requires the application of established methods or procedures. Work may involve a choice of methods.

Please note, this is a temporary position that will conclude upon return of the incumbent.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Maintain mechanical spaces in an orderly manner, which may include organization, sweeping, vacuuming and wipe down of equipment

Perform manual work and routine maintenance activities for the Facilities department

Provide labour assistance with new construction, buildings maintenance, drainage systems, grounds maintenance, and repair of furniture and equipment

Replace air filters

Transport items between schools, such as filing cabinets, chairs, desks, staging, materials, and supplies

Disposal of items as required

Perform other related duties as may reasonably be expected of a person in this position

Required Qualifications:

Secondary school graduation

Valid B.C. Class 5 driver’s license; a drivers abstract to be provided annually

Required Experience:

A minimum of six (6) months experience in a similar role

Required Skills and Abilities:

Working knowledge of materials, methods and tools used in trades

Ability to work independently

Ability to develop and follow maintenance schedule

Ability to use safe lifting and carrying techniques

Ability to use some independent judgment in performing assigned tasks and following departmental procedures

Sufficient physical strength and health to work outdoors, to lift materials, work in confined spaces, and to work in extreme temperature conditions (hot and cold)

Ability to work cooperatively with others including both department and other school district staff

NOTE: A clear Criminal Record Review to be provided and updated every five (5) years.
