School District #8 (Kootenay Lake) is located in the southern Interior of British Columbia, Canada and serves the Lower Kootenay Band and the communities of Kaslo, Meadow Creek, Crawford Bay, Creston, Wynndel, Yahk, Nelson, Salmo, South Slocan, Winlaw, Slocan, and the surrounding rural areas. The annual pay range for a full time teacher is $61,522 to $108,126, with placement on the range based on experience and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.

School District #8 (Kootenay Lake) has a vacancy for a dynamic and passionate educator at JV Humphries Elementary/ Secondary School in Kaslo, BC. JV Humphries is a Grade K-12 school, with a current enrolment of 200 students. We are looking to add an innovative educator to our High School team who:

• is willing to engage in cross-curricular integration in holistic, connected ways

• promotes student growth through personalization and differentiation

• implements inquiry, project-based and design thinking pedagogical approaches

• enjoys working within collaborative teaching teams

Job Description and Requirements:

The selected applicant will have experience teaching in a multi-aged setting and be fluent in assessment strategies that support learning, universal design for learning, and technology integration (including GAFE). They will strive to create an engaging, challenging, and supportive learning environment that meets Science and Math curricular expectations. The applicant should also have recent experience teaching in middle and secondary school settings. Position Description:

The selected applicant will teach Science and Math classes to students in grades 8-12, with a linear prep schedule. Please contact the school to understand the daily schedule before applying for this position.

Educational Qualifications:

• A valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch

• Bachelors’ degree in Science or Mathematics, or related field

• Degree or Certificate in Teacher Education with an emphasis in Sciences and/or Mathematics

• Recent successful experience teaching Science and/or Math at the secondary school level is preferred

• Experience with a variety of learning management systems

• Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment

• Excellent communication, interpersonal and classroom management skills

Required Competencies and Experience

The successful candidate will be able to:

1 Create a mutually respectful classroom culture that ensures student involvement and engagement in the learning process, enabling each student to achieve learning outcomes through a variety of current instructional and self-regulation strategies

2. Collaborate with colleagues and the School-Based Team, including the Learning Support Teacher, Indigenous Education Teacher, Education Assistants, and Counsellor, to ensure that students with learning and behavioral challenges receive the necessary support through adaptations, modifications, and differentiation as outlined in their IEPs

3. Establish clear learning outcomes or key questions related to the big ideas in the new curriculum for units and projects, and clearly communicate these outcomes to both students and parents.

4. Plan learning sequences that address the needs, interests, and abilities of diverse learners by using Backward Design and differentiation strategies.

5. Develop assessment and evaluation strategies that align with the changed emphases in curriculum.

6. Be knowledgeable and experienced with current educational technologies, and demonstrate a growth mindset for learning new teaching tools and applications.

7. Be aware of Indigenous worldviews and knowledge, and establish positive, interdependent relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the community, recognizing and respecting each student's unique abilities

8. Be fluent with the redesigned Science and Math curriculum and ready to create meaningful and engaging learning experiences.
