Kootenay Lake School District serves the learning needs of approximately 4700 students in several diverse communities and in an array of learning environments throughout the Kootenays. The School Board Office is located in Nelson, B.C. Our schools are dispersed geographically and range in size and composition:
- 13 elementary schools
- 1 middle school
- 1 K-10 school
- 4 secondary schools
- 2 K-12 schools
- online learning and blended programs
- an extensive array of program options, including Aboriginal Education, Late French Immersion, Outdoor Programs, and a strong International Program.
The annual pay range for a full time teacher is $63,367 to $111,488, with placement on the range based on experience and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
School District #8 (Kootenay Lake) has a vacancy for a 1.0 FTE Term Grade 4/5 Classroom Teacher. They must have a strong background in differentiation, supporting students with diverse academic and social-emotional needs. They must be very organized and have excellent classroom management structures and experience. A music background is preferred.
The awarded applicant will have recent demonstrated successful experience working in multi-aged classrooms. They will be innovative, creative, and demonstrate understanding of the BC Redesigned Curriculum.?The ideal candidate will have a strong background in trauma informed teaching, have experience with outdoor learning, and will have the ability to positively and effectively manage a diverse multiage group of lively learners.
The awarded applicant will be able to work effectively with students who have diverse learning and behaviour challenges and have a strong belief in inclusion for all students.? ?They will be a person who is continually striving to improve pedagogy in a changing educational environment in a rural setting.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor of Education or higher as well as qualifications /experience teaching.
The awarded candidate will be proficient in:
• Willingness to work closely with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and the community
• Collaborative planning and teaching, curriculum implementation
• Excellent classroom management skills
• Knowledge of current instructional practices and new curriculum including working with the competencies
• Demonstrate effective assessment strategies
• Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills
• Proficiency and current use of technologies to enhance and personalize learning (e.g. iPads)
• Building positive, collaborative relationships
• Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to be flexible, encouraging and engaging
