Kootenay Lake School District serves the learning needs of approximately 4700 students in several diverse communities and in an array of learning environments throughout the Kootenays. The School Board Office is located in Nelson, B.C. Our schools are dispersed geographically and range in size and composition:
- 13 elementary schools
- 1 middle school
- 1 K-10 school
- 4 secondary schools
- 2 K-12 schools
- online learning and blended programs
- an extensive array of program options, including Aboriginal Education, Late French Immersion, Outdoor Programs, and a strong International Program.
The annual pay range for a full time teacher is $63,367 to $111,488, with placement on the range based on experience and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
The awarded applicant will have recent demonstrated successful experience working collaboratively with school staff. The awarded applicant will be innovative, creative, inclusive, and demonstrate an understanding of the BC Ed Plan and the District and school Inclusion Plan. They will be a person who is continually striving to improve pedagogy in a changing educational environment.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Education
• A valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch;
Teachers applying for this position must possess the following attributes:
• Willingness and ability to work closely with parents;
• Ability to work with complex primary students
• Ability and willingness to work closely with School Based Team.
• Excellent classroom management skills;
• Knowledge and use of current inclusive instructional practices and curriculum;
• Demonstrated application of inclusive education practices;
• Strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills;
• Recent, demonstrated successful experience in a kindergarten or primary setting.
• A demonstrated ability to work with colleagues;
• Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to be flexible;
• Recent training/experience in delivering a Primary education program.
The ideal candidate will be expected to:
• Deliver a full and inclusive Primary program.
• Employ SEL and Trauma-informed practices
• Work in an atmosphere of collaboration with staff to build consistency and quality of
programs
• Communicate effectively with staff and parents
• Be familiar with the BC Ed plan, school district board goals and school goals
• Implement school wide strategies to support the school board’s student expectations,
school and class needs
• Support Individual Education Plans in a collaborative team environment
• Demonstrated ability to use inclusive instruction to meet the learning needs of diverse learners.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working from an inclusion perspective to address diverse learning needs.
• Participate in on-going professional development and develop a personal growth plan
• Demonstrate expertise in use of authentic assessment strategies
• Demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively with others in developing school and district-based initiatives
• Demonstrate knowledge of using technology to support student learning
