DISTRICT PSYCHOLOGIST - Coast Mountains School District 82

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The School Psychologist is a member of

District Staff in a Position of Special Responsibility working under the

direction of the Director of Instruction, Learner Support or designate.

The School Psychologist will:

• Provide collaborative consultation in classrooms and at school-based team meetings;

• Provide collaborative planning for students and classrooms and consult on pre-referral interventions;

• Provide educational assessments, which may include the use of

Level C testing instruments, for students referred through the

school-based team process;

• Contribute to the development of the IEP as appropriate and necessary;

• Provide in-service training in the area of interventions, progress monitoring, data collection and/or assessment;

• Consult with Director of Learner Support regarding with the Ministry of Education processes for designation and adjudication;

• Consult with teachers, support staff, parents, students, and

community agencies (e.g. MCFD, regional health authorities, Community

Living BC, Child and Youth Mental Health) regarding student strengths

and needs, assessment implication, and interventions through which to

enhance learning and interpersonal relations;

• Collaborate with school-based and/or district personnel to gather

classroom-based data, design or implement instructional strategies

/interventions and /or design and implement behavioural interventions;

• Assist school or district staff in providing additional in-service

for educators and support staff (e.g. behaviour management,

observational techniques/data gathering, PBS, RTI) and participate or

assist with program evaluation or research activities;

• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Instruction, Learner Support or designate.

This assignment is a district position with responsibilities to

schools and staff throughout the district. This teacher will be expected

to work the same hours per week as Secondary teachers in the schools,

but the schedule of hours will be flexible and reasonable and will

depend on specific plans on a daily and weekly basis as mutually agreed

to by the School Psychologist and the Director of Instruction, Learner

Support or designate.

An allowance will be assigned to this position in accordance with

Article B.27 (Allowances). This teacher is bound by the BCTF Code of

Ethics.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

1. Knowledge and understanding of Ministry of Education curriculum and competencies.

2. Understanding of educational implications of the assessment

process and the skill set to provide support based on strengths and

needs.

3. Experience working within elementary and secondary schools.

4. Current knowledge of Ministry of Education, Special Education policies and procedures.

5. Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team with

Learner Support staff, teachers, school administrators, support staff,

parents, students and other professionals.

6. Ability to collaborate with school-based or district staff to

gather/review classroom-based data and design or implement

instructional strategies.

7. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills, ability to form

successful working relationships with a variety of colleagues.

8. Ability to organize and prioritize work and effective time

management in order to complete assessments and reports in a timely

manner

9. Awareness of, and practice according to, relevant professional

standards and ethics such as the BCTF Code of Ethics, the Principles and

Standards for Members of the BC Association of School Psychologists,

and/or the College of Psychologists of BC Code of Conduct.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Professional teaching certificate as recognized by the BC Ministry of Education

2. Possession of a Master’s Degree in school/educational psychology.

3. Successful classroom and/or resource teacher experience.

4. Eligible for registration with the BC College of Psychologists or Membership with

BC Association of School Psychologist.

5. Possession of a current valid BC Driver’s License to support travel to rural and in-town schools
