Our large energy client is seeking an employee to join permanently as a Senior AWS Solution Architect to lead the modernization of legacy applications with CI/CD and AWS native functionalities.


Location: Must come into downtown Calgary office 5 days/week. Only local Calgary candidates will be considered at this time.


Must-have:

  • 8+ years of strong background/experience in software development with programming skills in languages (e.g., Java, C++, Python, or Typescript)
  • 3+ years of solution architecture writing and IT architecture modelling capabilities (contextual, conceptual and logical) to author technical solution documents
  • Proven experience modernizing legacy applications
  • Proven experience implementing AWS cloud-based solutions
  • In-depth knowledge of CI/CD practices and tools (e.g., GitHub Administration and Policies, and GitHub Action).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field


Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience using the Archimate modelling standard in Abacus
  • Solution architecture experience with oil and gas, energy, and/or retail companies
  • Master’s degree


Responsibilities:

  • Guide development team through the modernization of legacy systems
  • Utilize your extensive software development experience to design and implement robust, scalable solutions
  • Your expertise in cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and your knowledge of CI/CD practices will be essential in driving our projects forward
  • Lead the architectural design and modernization of mission critical legacy applications, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
  • Establish, document, communicate and expand the technical vision and roadmap for the legacy payment transaction and settlement product and the plan to achieve it
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines to streamline development processes and enhance deployment efficiency.
  • Leverage AWS native services to build scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices (e.g. Single Responsibility Principle, SOLID, etc).
  • Mentor and support team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
