Senior Data Architect to help design and architect a new Cloud data platform.

Our client is seeking a Senior Data Architect for an initial 3-month contract (possibility for extension or conversation to a permanent position) in Ottawa.


This position will require adherence to the clients hybrid model, 2 days a week on-site downtown Ottawa.


As the successful candidate you will help design and architect cutting-edge cloud data platforms, driving high-performance, scalable solutions that will enhance the organization's data management, analytics, and reporting capabilities.

Tasks

  • Lead the architectural design and implementation of the new cloud data platform ensuring alignment with business and technical objectives.
  • Plan and execute the migration of data including mapping schemas, optimizing data structures, and ensuring data integrity and security throughout the transition.
  • Develop and implement strategies for data ingestion, integration, transformation, and storage
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across IT, data science, and business teams to gather requirements and ensure the new platform meets all needs.
  • Establish best practices for data governance, security, and compliance, ensuring adherence to relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Design and implement monitoring and alerting for the new data platform to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Work with engineering teams to ensure scalability, performance optimization, and cost-efficiency in the cloud environment.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to internal teams throughout the migration and beyond.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in data architecture, cloud computing, and big data solutions.

Must-Have Skills:

  • 3+ years experience as a Data Architect with expertise in cloud data platforms
  • Experience in data modeling, String sets for ETL processes, and data manipulation.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, or other data manipulation languages.
  • Experience with data governance, data quality management, and ensuring data compliance.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with Snowflake and/or Google BigQuery
  • Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Apache Kudu, Hadoop, Spark, etc.)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices in data engineering environments.
  • Relevant certifications (AWS, GCP)
