Sr. Data Engineer to build and maintain Analytical & AI platforms for our large financial client - 6077


Contract Duration: 6 months

Location: Downtown Toronto (Hybrid - 2x/week)

Hours: 40h/week


The Opportunity:

You will collaborate with Middleware/Product/Data Engineering, Data Scientists, and business stakeholders to deliver a well-managed and supported AI + Analytical Platforms at Teachers', ensuring their continuous improvement and refinement to meet evolving business needs and leverage the latest technological advancements.


Who you will work with:

  • You'll join the Data, Analytics & AI team, a multidisciplinary group of data scientists, data analytics specialists, data engineers, and data visualization experts. Collaborating closely in this environment, you'll support the development of Generative AI applications and the delivery & management of Analytical & AI technologies.
  • You’ll also work directly with our Middleware & Product engineering team, Product Owners, Enterprise Architects, Software developers, and internal business team clients (Capital Markets, Private Investment, and more).
  • You will report to Senior Analytical Technology Manager, Data Science & Advanced Analytics.

What you will do:


Your main responsibilities include building and maintaining our Analytical & AI platforms, which include Power BI/Fabric, Databricks, AI Studio, Copilot Studio, and Azure AI Services. A key part of your role will be driving user adoption through training and support, fostering a community of practice, ensuring continuous improvement, and exploring innovative ways to leverage these tools for maximum business value.

  • Help to build/maintain a wholistic analytical platform that enables common services, standards, patterns, and ensuring optimal performance and usage.
  • Provide front-line technical support to analytical platforms through various channels.
  • Coordinate change management processes for the platforms.
  • Address planned and unplanned production issues, support the coordination, maintenance, and communication.
  • Identify and analyse problems and trends within the platforms, providing monitoring and reporting.
  • Identify and execute on improvement opportunities within the platforms.
  • Be able to research independently for potential solutions to problems encountered.
  • Design and develop automations as needed.
  • Play a role in various related tasks, including user story creation, end-to-end process outlining, system configuration, testing, troubleshooting.
  • Requirements gathering and rationalization: work cooperatively with internal stakeholders to understand and clarify platform and service needs.
  • Fostering the development of our business users and colleagues, maintaining a COE with up-to-date best practises, and methodologies for our various platforms.
  • Help to develop training materials tailored to various levels of expertise.

What you will need:


Experience in industry or an academic setting of:

  • 5+ years technical support, technical consulting experience, or information technology experience.
  • 5+ years of experience and demonstrated expertise in managing and supporting Power BI.
  • 3+ years of experience in Cloud computing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of RESTful API design principles and experience developing and managing APIs.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience and knowledge of foundational Generative AI principles such as prompt engineering, RAG, finetuning, etc. and frameworks will be an asset.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience with communication and interpersonal skills, including written and presentational, with the ability to work and engage with a diverse range of customers and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience documenting business processes, gathering service requirements from diverse groups of stakeholders, to inform current and future service provision.
  • Proven track record of staying current with technology.
  • Problem-solving skills working in a team-based environment.
  • Experience / Knowledge with surrounding technologies such as SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and wider M365 applications.
