Our valued Public Sector client is looking for a Sr. Systems Analyst to join a cross-functional team of technical and business oriented resources in support of multiple projects.


This role will require work to be carried out on-site in Halifax Nova Scotia.


Tasks include:

  • Join a team of technical and business analyst resources within the PMO who are playing a hands-on role working on projects with Halifax Water Stakeholders
  • Recommend new or improved system solutions to ensure process objectives and intended benefits are realized
  • Elicit and document business & technical requirements using document analysis, business analysis, systems analysis, applications understanding, requirement workshops, use case understanding, scenario discovery, task and workflow analysis
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstracts up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user request from the underlying true needs
  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with stakeholders to analyze information needs and functional requirements and identify areas that need improvement or updating
  • Become proficient in vendor systems / applications related to assigned projects, including understanding configuration, integration, and data / reporting capabilities
  • Interpreting business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements
  • Serve as the IT liaison between the business stakeholders and the IT team members through which requirements and specifications will flow
  • Develop requirement and configuration specifications according to standard templates, using natural language
  • Collaborate with IT team members and other subject matter experts to establish the solution vision and analyze trade-offs between usability, cost and efficiencies gained
  • Actively participate in the Testing and Quality Assurance (QA) process
  • Develop test cases, setup up test data, and execute required testing
  • Identify, report and retest system defects
  • Support data and reporting tasks on assigned projects
  • Review and assess the current IT systems to identify areas for improvement
  • Oversee the implementation of new or upgraded systems.
  • Provide training and support to users to help them understand and use the new systems effectively


Must have:

  • Must be available to work on-site in Halifax, NS from 8:30am - 4:30pm (Atlantic)
  • Must be eligible to obtain a police record check


Nice to have:

  • Preference will be given to individuals with a minimum of 5 years hands-on Systems and Business Analysis experience delivering projects for utilities or other government organizations, based ideally in the Halifax region
  • Ability to use advanced Visio functions
