French as a Second Language Facilitator (1-12)
1 Year Secondment for the 2024/2025 School Year
The French as a Second Language Facilitator (1-12) will focus on the research, implementation, and monitoring of learning, teaching, and assessment strategies to support the development of language skills that enable students to listen and respond, think, express and reflect, speak and interact, read, review and respond, and write for different audiences and purposes in various contexts. Candidates will have expertise related to the development and facilitation of effective professional learning with the ability to connect teachers within and across schools to implement evidence-informed practices. A key aspect of the role will be to support the continued successful transition of the French Immersion program into secondary school. The facilitator will work with Student Achievement department staff to create opportunities for educators to build the capacity of classroom teachers to design and deliver programming in order to achieve excellence, ensure equity, promote well-being, and enhance public confidence in education.
Successful applicants will be compensated at their current rate of pay and home location will be determined once a successful applicant has been selected.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
An Ontario Teacher’s Certificate of Qualification
A University degree
Qualifications to teach in two divisions (junior/intermediate or intermediate/senior preferred)
Five or more years teaching experience in a variety of assignments
Additional Qualifications in French as a Second Language, required
Experience in second language instruction with experience in French Immersion and/or Extended French preferred
Special Education qualifications preferred

Successful applicants for the French as a Second Language Facilitator (1-12) position will demonstrate evidence of:
a repertoire of effective evidence-informed instructional strategies to engage students in learning;
in-depth knowledge of assessment, evaluation, and reporting;
understanding of strategies to support multilingual learners and students with special education needs;
an in-depth understanding of the transformation of French as a Second Language including the implementation of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and the Diplôme d’Études en Langues Françaises (DELF);
an ability to align professional learning with system priorities;
experience in the design and facilitation of effective professional learning;
experience supporting cross-curricular language development strategies;
demonstrated leadership in a school or family of schools project;
experience working in collaboration with colleagues;
excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills; and
thorough knowledge of the following documents:

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
The French as a Second Language Facilitator (K-12) will:
communicate pertinent information about Ministry core priorities and the transformation of French as a Second Language;
build educator capacity related to the development of language skills, effective pedagogical practices and the implementation of gap closing and transition strategies for students who are experiencing difficulties with learning and/or engagement;
support the implementation of the CEFR, the DELF and the French Immersion and Extended French Program;
focus on the continued implementation of French Immersion in secondary schools;
work collaboratively with other central and school-based staff to support integrative thinking, planning, and monitoring of the impact of both individual and collective work on student achievement; and
other responsibilities to be determined based on the emerging learning needs of the system.

The nature of the position and size of Simcoe County requires the successful candidate to have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license. Mileage will be reimbursable at the established Board rate.
