Role

The Payroll Manager oversees the complete payroll processing cycle for the organization's employees, ensuring compliance with applicable laws.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Bi-weekly payroll processing for employees in Quebec and Ontario, along with all related tasks.
  • Creation of new employee records.
  • Updating of vacation and personal leave banks, among others.
  • Preparation of payroll data calculations (deductions, taxable benefits), final payment calculations, and production of employment records.
  • Collaboration with managers and HR business partners in payroll administration (validating hours and earnings entries, etc.).
  • Remittance of source deductions (federal and provincial remittances, third-party remittances, or workers' compensation, group RRSP/DPSP, etc.).
  • In collaboration with the HR department, administration of the organization's compensation programs, and execution of orders/judgments/requests from various governmental bodies/authorities/creditors (e.g., alimony, garnishment, etc.).
  • Payroll accounting, i.e., journal entries, account reconciliations and analyses (monthly group insurance invoice, etc.), general ledger account monitoring, budget process participation, etc.
  • Management of the year-end process, including required government filings, transmission of tax data, reconciliation, and preparation of tax slips (T4, R1, etc.).
  • Prepare payroll-related HR statistics and indicators.
  • Support the HR and accounting departments to optimize collaboration.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or DEC combined with solid experience.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification from the National Payroll Institute (definitely an asset).
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of employer legal requirements and obligations in Quebec and Ontario (an asset).
  • Solid experience in payroll processing and the annual payroll management cycle, i.e., payroll accounting, year-end process, etc.
  • Familiarity and proficiency with various payroll systems, preferably Nethris and Ceridian (Dayforce).
  • Work experience in the manufacturing sector and ERP systems.
  • Intermediate functions in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIF, etc.).
  • Bilingual in French and English, both spoken and written.

  • Ability to manage time and priorities. Sense of urgency and proactivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team and collaborate in a matrix, multi-site, and multicultural organization.
  • Analytical skills, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
